I was unaware that the U.S. with the exception of a few people were in front of their TV’s to watch the season premiere of LOST. Thankfully, I had Kim Parsell and Ryan Duff call in to make sure I wasn’t lonely on the show. We actually had a great conversation centered around the future of themes, theme frameworks, HTML5, the default theme, etc. It was a theme show for sure but when you get me on the topic of theme frameworks, rant mode kicks in and it’s hard for me to let go. I’d be interested in your thoughts after you hear the rants.

In this holy edition of WordPress Weekly, I interviewed special guest Aaron Brazell of Technosailor.com to talk about his experience in the world of consulting, his work involving WordPress, and last but not least, his book called The WordPress Bible by Wiley Publishing. The WordPress Bible is a book for theme designers, plugin developers, core developers and WordPress users alike. It contains tutorials, references, screenshots and walk-thrus that will help you use the worlds most popular hosted blog platform to its best. This is definitely one of the go to references you want to have near your desk. I highly advise you to give this episode a listen as I think we covered quite a bit of ground.

This episode of WordPress Weekly was an open mic version of the show where I was joined by Kim Parsell, Scott K Clark and Conorp to discuss the round up of news stories for the past week. Nothing too exciting in the episode other than you get to hear my voice quite a bit.

On January 26th, I’ll be interviewing Aaron Brazell of Technosailor.com to talk about his involvement with WordPress over the years as well as his new book called The WordPress Bible.
This episode of WordPress Weekly featured two different guests. The first, Joshua Strebel who operates the Page.ly service. Page.ly is an interesting service because it takes the best of what WordPress.com has to offer and combines it with the freedom of using the WordPress software itself. While I would have thought that this is directly competing against WordPress.com, it’s not. During the interview, I ask Josh what happens behind the scene at Page.ly, what the response has been like from his current customer base, the specifics behind why he is only hosting WordPress powered websites and much more.
During the second half of the show, Chris Pirillo of Lockergnome fame joined the show to talk about his usage of WordPress MU along with BuddyPress. Chris currently has Lockergnome.net setup for anyone who wants a free blog. However, Chris has setup premium.lockergnome.net to provide more value for the blogs hosted on the domain. During the show, we talked about Chris’s use of the Lifestream plugin that many people found interest in.

In this fun filled episode of WordPress Weekly, I was privileged to be joined by two awesome members of the WordPress community, Andrea and Ron Rennick also known as the WordPress MU Gurus. During the show, we talked about a number of different things related to WordPress MU including the impending code base merge with WordPress, plugin and theme compatibility, the differences between WordPress and WordPress MU, usability enhancements to the WordPress MY back-end interface, and much more. Near the end of the show, we talk about the trend of plugins switching to a paid model which I find to be a very interesting topic.

In episode 82, I geeked out with Otto42 and Jeremy Clarke as we discussed a number of topics centered around WordPress development. This episode will most likely go over a lot of people’s heads but I still think it’s worth a listen if you’re at all interested in the privacy stuff that happened a few weekends ago or want to hear us talk about the issues surrounding testing and WordPress.

During the discussion, we talk about what it’s like to use WordPress for developing custom solutions that WordPress is not really known for as the perception is that the software is primary just for blogging. We also discuss some of the new features in WordPress 2.9, WordCamp Boston and a whole lot more.

In episode 80 of WordPress Weekly, I interviewed Raphael Mudge of AfterTheDeadline.com, the newest acquisition by Automattic. Next week December 8th, there will be no-show. Instead, On December 15th, I’ll be interviewing Jacob Goldman of CMurrayConsulting to talk about his companies work involving WordPress.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on what I have planned for WordPress Weekly this month. On December 1st, I’ll be interviewing Raphael Mudge who is the lead developer of the After The Deadline plugin/service. AtD is the most recent acquisition by Automattic which is a contextual grammar and spell checker. It goes deeper than that but I’ll save it for the interview. If you have questions you’d like me to ask Raphael, please add them to this thread in the forum.
On December 8th, there will not be a show as I’ll be attending one of those Christmas parties that work is putting on.
On December 15th, I’ll be interviewing Jacob Goldman of C. Murray Consulting. We’ll be talking about their work involving WordPress and custom development. I recommend reading their case studies page.
December 29th will feature an interview I’ve been working on for quite a while to get established and that is with the WordPress MU Gurus Andrea and Ron Rennick who I had the pleasure of meeting in person at WordCamp New York. Two awesome people. Of course, we’ll be chatting about WordPress MU.
That’s it for the month of December. The Aaron Brazell WordPress Bible interview has been rescheduled to January 26th which is shortly before the book hits stores. Keep an eye on the WordPress Weekly section of the forum as I always provide an opportunity to submit interview questions for upcoming guests.
In this episode, I had the chance to welcome Alex King back to the show to talk about the WPHelpCenter, his Carrington theme framework and last but not least, his take on PremiumMod as well as his thoughts on building a business around GPL software such as WordPress. When I published my review of WPHelpCenter when it launched in April of this year, I had my doubts as to whether there would be demand for it considering the numerous outlets for support that exist within the community. After talking with Alex King within this interview, it’s clear that there is demand for such a service and it’s doing well.

WordPress Trivia Answer:
bbPress. bbPress was originally written by WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg, after he could not find software available at the time that fit his needs. bbPress was the first forum software to utilize a CSS-based layout, rather than the tabular layouts of other forum software available at the time.
