WordPress Trivia For Your WordPress Birthday Party

WordPress Trivia For Your WordPress Birthday Party

By Jeffro on May 24, 2013

As we get closer to the 10th anniversary of WordPress, people have been asking me if I know of any WordPress trivia plugins or games that they could use for their 10th anniversary birthday party. While I don’t know of any plugins, there is a WordPress Jeopardy style website you can use that if nothing else, can help generate some trivia questions. It’s called WP Gameshow. The concept was created by the organizers of WordCamp Detroit, 2011. When I originally wrote about the site, Anthony stated in the comments:

WordPress Game Show

I’m glad everyone is enjoying the game! It was a lot of fun performing it live and we really would like to see what others can do with the platform. So yes, we do plan on releasing a theme which will allow for you to create your own questions and such. No time on release, but it is in the works.

To this day, nothing has been released although the domain is still active, complete with a game board. I got in touch with Anthony to see if he has made any progress on releasing this as a theme or plugin.

This is one of those things that we never finished for release. I just sent an email to my friend who I worked on it with for the most recent version. As soon as I hear back from him, I’m going to take another run at it and see if it’s “good enough” for use and we’ll try to post a copy of it for download on the trivia site.

I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from him and have the opportunity to put it up for release.

Once I hear from Anthony about a download link being established, I’ll pass the word along. Until then, you’ll have to use the actual WPGameshow website.

WordPress Gameshow Now Available To Play From Home

WordPress Gameshow Now Available To Play From Home

By Jeffro on November 21, 2011

One of the big hits from this years WordCamp Detroit event is now available to be played from home. For the first time I believe, attendees were able to play a jeopardy style WordPress game. The game features 5 different categories with 5 questions ranging from 100 to 500 points. While playing the game, I was relieved to know most of the answers to the HistoryPress category. As far as the other categories go, I didn’t to do bad with those either and the ones I missed ended up with a really close answer. If you have a few minutes to spare, play the game for yourself and then come back and report how well you did. Be honest!

WordPress Game Show

Great idea and execution by Anthony Montalbano, TJ List, and the rest of the WordCamp Detroit crew. I’m hoping that at some point, the execution of this game can be released in the form of a plugin where we can change around the categories as well as the questions.

WordPress Trivia Winners

WordPress Trivia Winners

By Jeffro on January 6, 2010

It’s time to announce the winners of the WordPress Trivia game I started back in 2009. The game was fun and although I didn’t ask as many questions as I’d like, it was a challenge to stump those who regularly contributed to the game. To all who played, I hope you had fun. The winners are as follows:

  1. Josh Leuze – StudioPress All Themes Package
  2. Kim Parsell – The Shopp E-Commerce Plugin
  3. Conorp – An account with WordPress centric Webhosting provider PremiumWPHosting

I also want to say thank you to each company who volunteered a prize as part of this Trivia game. I won’t be continuing the trivia segment into 2010. If your name is mentioned in this post, I’ll be in contact with you via email to get your prizes squared away.

WPTavern Trivia Game

WPTavern Trivia Game

By Jeffro on June 22, 2009

trivia Longtime listeners of WordPress Weekly know that recently, we’ve started a new segment called WordPress trivia. Up until now, the segment has been used as a means of education and also to have a bit of fun. However, I’ve decided to turn this segment into a game by awarding points to the first three people who answer the question correctly within the comments of that shownotes page. The point system is as follows:

  • Be the first to get it right and earn – 3 points
  • Be the second to get it right and earn – 2 points
  • Be the third to get it right and earn – 1 point

There will be other methods of earning points as well such as through the WPTavern forum and by interacting with me on Twitter. The bonus point amount will be announced along with the question. Only the first person to get the correct answer will receive the bonus point amount.

The scorecard will be kept on the Trivia page along with the rules, how to participate and the prizes that will be up for grabs at the end of the year. Speaking of prizes, if you’re interested in sponsoring this shindig with a prize package, please get in touch with me. At the end of the year, the top point totals will be able to choose their prize until there are no prizes left.

I plan on starting the trivia game with the July 3rd edition of WordPress Weekly. If you have any comments or suggestions related to the game or ideas on how to make this thing rock, let me know.

Win WordCamp Chicago Tickets

Win WordCamp Chicago Tickets

By Jeffro on April 6, 2009

In episode 49 of WordPress Weekly, I announced that the first person to give me the correct answer to the trivia question would win a free ticket to WordCamp Chicago. So far, no one has submitted an answer to the question. So with that said, if no one answers the question by the time the next episode airs, I will up the ante to two tickets. That is two tickets to WordCamp Chicago. These tickets were graciously donated to me to give away as prizes via Margaret Roach of Margaretroach.com Here is the trivia question:

What is the name of the software which is an enterprise edition based off of WordPress? Hint: stores all of its information in a set number of database tables meaning it has a normalized schema.

Update JLeuze has correctly identified the answer. Please see his comment here.
