Easier theme upgrades -This plugin helps make the theme upgrade process a breeze. After installation and activation, you can upgrade a theme by uploading a zip file containing the updated files. Your old theme files will be archived in a zip file that is placed in your media library so you don’t have to worry about disappearing hacked theme files or edits. This episode of WordPress Weekly featured two different guests. The first, Joshua Strebel who operates the Page.ly service. Page.ly is an interesting service because it takes the best of what WordPress.com has to offer and combines it with the freedom of using the WordPress software itself. While I would have thought that this is directly competing against WordPress.com, it’s not. During the interview, I ask Josh what happens behind the scene at Page.ly, what the response has been like from his current customer base, the specifics behind why he is only hosting WordPress powered websites and much more.
During the second half of the show, Chris Pirillo of Lockergnome fame joined the show to talk about his usage of WordPress MU along with BuddyPress. In this fun filled episode of WordPress Weekly, I was privileged to be joined by two awesome members of the WordPress community, Andrea and Ron Rennick also known as the WordPress MU Gurus. During the show, we talked about a number of different things related to WordPress MU including the impending code base merge with WordPress, plugin and theme compatibility, the differences between WordPress and WordPress MU, usability enhancements to the WordPress MY back-end interface, and much more. When I published my review of WPHelpCenter when it launched in April of this year, I had my doubts as to whether there would be demand for it considering the numerous outlets for support that exist within the community. In this sleepy edition of WordPress Weekly, (since I was awake for 20+hours) I had a chat with Joseph Cefoli who is the guy in charge of The FairFieldMirror.com and Daniel Bachhuber of CoPress, a company specializing in the migration from College Publisher while also providing managed hosting. During the interview, we discussed a number of topics including the trials and tribulations of migrating 7,000+ articles from College Publisher into WordPress, the manual labor involved, the various plugins in use on the site and much more. I find the stories of migrations such as these to be interesting since they usually consist of painful experiences that were overcome.
