Thanks to some detective work from community member Gautam, it looks as though After The Deadline will be renamed to SpellPress. The open source version of After The Deadline has recently seen a slew of file name changes where sp is now the file prefix. SP standing for SpellPress. When specifically asked whether the change in names would occur, Raphael who represents the AtDev account on Twitter responded with the following:
@_GautamGupta_ Good detective work. Most likely the answer is yes.
I applaud the change in names as SpellPress is to the point and does not require as much explanation as to what the service does when compared to After The Deadline. Some folks have asked, why not sooner? After The Deadline was an ongoing project before Automattic acquired Raphael and his technology so therefor, the name, After The Deadline stuck around.

Raphael Mudge has published an interesting post that talks about re-thinking the relationship with the spell checker. His post made me reflect on just how dependent I’ve become on services such as After The Deadline or the built-in spell checker inside of FireFox. There used to be a time when I could easily spell big words when writing them down on paper or saying the letters out loud. Those days are long gone. When I write content and it comes to using a big word, I’ll make the first try a good guess hoping that I got close enough to the word that FireFox will suggest the one I was trying to use.
I imagine that not writing words down on paper with pen is one of the biggest reasons for my lack of ability to spell. Grammar to me is an after thought. I also wonder if I should put myself in a little experiment where I disable all spell checkers for one week to see how I do. If anyone else is willing to go through this same experiment, let me know in the comments. We can give it a try for a week and report our findings.
Can anyone else admit that spelling and grammar checkers have become a large crutch?

Nuclear powered Raphael Mudge has announced on the After The Deadline blog a couple of interesting developments the first being the removal of API Keys. Using the service no longer requires users to register with the site. However, if you need to use AtD in a commercial environment, you are encouraged to use the open source software edition of AtD. The post covers a couple of other announcements such as an update to the bbPress plugin, AtD speaking more languages and the WordPress plugin now being available in more translations. Seems like every week Raphael has something exciting to tell us regarding AtD which is a good thing!
