Displaying 1 To 27 Of 27 Comments Do You Mistrust A Company That Misspells WordPress? Sometimes even the best of us make typos. Furthermore, it sounds a bit snobby to say just because someone typed WordPress with a lowercase p is unworthy of your trust. To be quite honest, most people don’t do the research into seeing how a brand likes their name to be spelled. Sometimes they know the proper formatting, but they are not super conscious about it. For example take this article of yours: http://www.wptavern.com/plugin-review-woocommerce PayPal has two capital Ps … not like paypal. P.S. I didn’t mean to be nitpicky about the PayPal spelling. I just know that a lot of people misspell that, and I needed a fast example. Quick research showed that post. Your other posts have it spelled correctly at least the ones that I saw :) » Posted By Syed Balkhi On May 17, 2013 @ 9:05 AM WordPress News Sites And The Bermuda Triangle Creating a WP news site on its own without having another business is shooting a bullet in your foot. Same goes for a resource site. We are able to run WPBeginner because of all the client work we do. Sure we make a few affiliate sales here and there, but through WPBeginner we have landed some really big name clients. Running a quality blog takes a lot of time, and we all know that there are only 24 hours in a day :) I was talking with Japh from Envato at the Community Summit, and he revealed a very crazy number. The net annual cost of running the Tuts+ network is 1 million dollars. But the reason why they continue to have a high payout for their authors is because they want to contribute to the community. More importantly, it helps their marketplace business. If they can teach the users on their Tuts+ site, and have those users go buy/sell items on their marketplace, it is a good business model for them. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On January 21, 2013 @ 8:18 AM @Bob De Young – Yeah we created this for a membership site only. So couldn’t possibly reference it. Because our users would have to PAY to get in to see user library. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On April 1, 2012 @ 2:10 AM Its better to have control. For ex. where do you want to show Add to Favorites… where the dates are… below the post etc… » Posted By Syed Balkhi On March 29, 2012 @ 10:21 PM A Closer Look At Brute Force Attacks Against WP Sites I have had client lock themselves out all the time. So if you are the only person who has access to wp-admin and you lock yourself out, then you are screwed. I have done this myself because I couldn’t remember which password I used. I deleted the plugin … took some more guesses and got it. Then re-installed the plugin back. I have blocked my wp-admin and wp-login.php by IP address, so no outsider can see that. on top of that, there is limit login attempt. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On March 16, 2012 @ 2:36 PM @Kaspars – That is a very neat filter Kaspar. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On February 22, 2012 @ 12:28 PM Open Source Scotland Cancelled @Jeffro – It would certainly make a difference. Let me know if you need help with the editorial. Its really sad to see that the event was cancelled because of this craziness. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On January 22, 2012 @ 11:31 PM Alex King Releases Post Formats Admin UI Code I know I would like to see this implemented into the core. Heck this would even make a great plugin. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 26, 2011 @ 9:39 PM A Theme With 70 Different Widget Spots Using that many widgets is insane… Unless you have a front-end editor. Not sure if they have that. Alternatively, if they have customized the widget screen to have a friendlier display like Stephanie Leary once did, then it can work. Although, I think having this many queries on the homepage will certainly affect the load time. But with proper caching, it can be controlled. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 25, 2011 @ 10:53 AM Checklist Of Things To Do Before Switching Themes I just have a plugin file where I drop all the code I normally would have dropped into the theme’s functions.php file :) » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 25, 2011 @ 10:52 AM A First For Automattic – Investment In OwnLocal Interesting investment to say the least. I wonder if there are plans to bringing what they are doing over to WordPress.com at some point or at least power those systems on WordPress as well… » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 20, 2011 @ 10:27 AM Prevent Skype Overwriting Phone Numbers In WordPress Themes Update: Here is the plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/prevent-skype-overwriting/ » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 19, 2011 @ 5:56 PM Chip, I actually thought about creating a simple plugin and submit it to the repository… But most theme devs would like to have the snippet rather than activating a snippet. But I will submit this as a plugin to the repository now… » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 19, 2011 @ 4:41 PM Revamping The 404 Page For The Plugin Repository Great job Otto. I knew you would take care of this right away :) » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 16, 2011 @ 10:35 PM @Otto – Since now Otto has noticed this, I am certain that this issue will be addressed :) » Posted By Syed Balkhi On October 13, 2011 @ 10:07 PM Can’t agree with you anymore Jeff. If the folks over at the WP Foundation just come out and explain things themselves, then it would prevent issues like these… » Posted By Syed Balkhi On September 13, 2011 @ 9:49 PM Flexible Widgets – Only Works For Certain Widgets The one that is a bit simpler with a UI is Display Widgets which lets you select the pages you want to display it on … or hide it on. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On September 13, 2011 @ 9:02 AM What’s The Best Way To Be Notified Of Theme And Plugin Updates? @Otto – Ditto… » Posted By Syed Balkhi On September 5, 2011 @ 7:28 PM WordPress To Be More Tumblr Like I don’t think there is any legal issues with this. There is no patent on the concept. It’s like facebook copying the vanity URLs…. This concept is so generic that there will be no issues. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On November 14, 2010 @ 4:33 PM Review Of The Limit Login Attempts Plugin I am glad that you considered adding this plugin Jeff. We were getting a lot of these, so we took it a level further and put an IP restriction as well. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On May 11, 2010 @ 1:01 PM MattNote From WordCamp San Francisco Very good overview Jeff. Can’t wait to see more females in the progrmaming industry. There are a lot of designers and consultants but I guess that’s not the same. I can’t wait for the core plugins specially for twitter. Hope they use RSS parsing rather than using Search API because search API is useless for the most part because of the limitation. By the way Jeff, I gave a mini presentation about WordPress Security there – http://slideshare.net/wpbeginner You can find it there if you want. I was hoping that you would be there. But again I won’t be at Boston WordCamp. I think I saw you are speaking, so make sure you send me ur slides on twitter ;) » Posted By Syed Balkhi On January 12, 2010 @ 6:11 AM What Is The Weakest Link Of WordPress? I agree that the weakest link in WordPress is the blog centric notion that it has. Perhaps WordPress should revamp the site like Jeff said and/or have a separate section called WordPress as CMS or something. I think we can get the White House in the future if we do that. » Posted By Syed Balkhi On December 5, 2009 @ 9:30 AM 15 Useful Hacks From WPBeginner Thanks for mentioning us here Jeffro.
