Getting Started With Designing Your Site

$35. One pro-theme. Though a very nice theme, in the end it didn’t work well for what I wanted my site to be and from that experience I learned that I would only be happy building my own theme, which I did using the Thematic Framework. It’s nothing earth-shattering, and I’m still refining it, but I like being in charge of the whole thing, from Masthead to Footer.

I’m a graphic designer, so having a custom look is important to me. Though I’m not a full-time web developer (I work mostly in print media), I know enough to either get my work done or dig a very deep hole to climb out of (I’ve had experience with each). Additionally, I like mucking around with BBedit – working in code is a nice break from print design and illustration work. Variety is what keeps work interesting, IMO.

I no longer buy themes, but I’m more than willing to spend a little for a useful plug-in.

Become Proficient With Joomla, Drupal, Or WordPress With OSTraining

Hi jotrys – I hesitate to guess as its been a couple of years since we were actively building website for clients, but our experience was that the Drupal sites always ended up costing more to build the Joomla or WordPress sites. Drupal had higher-end customers with more needs and deeper pockets.

Hi Esses – yes, you may be right. WordPress might just be too easy for live training classes to have much traction. I’ve heard quite a lot of customers of commercial CMS customers complain that they’re getting gouged … the harder the CMS is to learn, the more money the CMS vendor makes. The extra difficulty of using Joomla and Drupal does add to the cost.

Why I Use VBulletin

I have looked at bbPress but was disappointed that had so little functionallity compared with phpBB which I have used elsewhere.

How do you rate SimplePress, the fact it is said to intergrate with WordPress registration is an attractive option for me.

Quick Update On My Where Abouts

Jeff,

It’s often difficult to separate between what we must do, and what we love to do. Your commitment and honesty to the community is commendable. You have done so much for the WP Community and if there is any thing we can do, just yell. God’s speed and hope to continue to see your great work once things stabilize for you. Thanks for the posting.

Configuring Contact Form 7

@Brooke

I had this problem too a few weeks ago and i finally solved it.

in your contact form your Yes No box should look like this:

Are you a high school or college student? [radio radio-123 "Yes" "No"]

your email section should be

High School or College: [radio-123]

I hope this helps

- Steve
