How Page.ly Was Built

Hey Jeff, looks like the link is broken.

WPCandy Set To Publish First WP Centric Print Magazine

Ryan, no strange laws. I was just implying that blaming an individual for shipping rates isn’t fair.

It does cost quite a bit to send internationally. A medium sized package can easily cost $30 USD in shipping to France or the UK.

Review Of WordCamp Montreal 2010

Thanks for the write-up Joachim. Is the presentation about making a plugin 3.0 network compatible online anywhere?

Guest Review Of The Book: WordPress & Ajax

@Matt,

Unfortunately, no. I haven’t found a publisher, and those that I have found want a completely different book :/

I tried doing the self-publishing route, but the unit price would have been around $40 with no profit for a 250 page book. So I’m just playing the wait-and-see game at the moment.

Who’s Right? Network Solutions Or Matt

Jeff,

I wrote an article a “while” back on how to protect the wp-config.php file (Devlounge.net).

To my knowledge, the technique still works.

Can’t Access Trash Within WordPress iPhone App

@Jeffro – Yep. I’ve considered making an Ajax Edit Comments type product for the iPhone, but browser based. If WordPress doesn’t get on the ball soon with some heavy-hitting comment features, I may just do that.

I personally wish that WordPress would have designed the comments area more like the mail app on the iPhone.

One folder for Approved, another for Pending, another for Spam, and finally, Trash.

Preview Of Ajax Edit Comments 4.0

@donnacha,

Interesting point about us “rich” westerners :)

Most of the people who have purchased AEC have been from outside the U.S.

@donnacha | WordSkill -

Thank you Donnacha for your kind words. I’m glad you think we’re doing things right on our side.

We’re striving to have our subscribers involved in the development process. So instead of building the plugin the way we want it, we listen to the users. As a result, I feel the users have as much invested in the success of the plugin as we do.

Thanks Jeff for the write up. I’ll see about updating the buttons on the front end to look more like quicktag buttons.

I hope your readers enjoy the new features.

No Keys Necessary For AtD

Speaking of multi-language support, I just exchanged a few e-mails with Raphael. It looks like the jQuery API will have to be updated first in order to support multiple languages. So in the meantime, all jQuery API users (including AEC) will have to stick to English.

Raphael has added in a ticket with a high priority for this fix: http://openatd.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/92

This is great news. Keep and eye out for AEC 4.0 also, which will have After the Deadline built in.

Paying For Ad Free

Jeff,

The monthly fees and high prices of wplugins.com led me to create my own site for Ajax Edit Comments.

When we thought of prices, we wanted something anybody could afford. It should be noted that most people who purchase the premium version of Ajax Edit Comments are outside the U.S.

We got some flak for charging for what was once a free plugin, but then I point out that our prices are very reasonable ($10 a year and includes support and upgrades) and it usually shuts them up.

Forum, Tickets, Or FAQ?

I used the Gravity Forms forum today to search for a problem I’m sure others were having, and I was right. It was an issue with redirecting, and the thread answered my question.

A ticket or an e-mail might have solved my issue, but the forum was faster.

» Posted By Ronald On January 30, 2010 @ 12:08 AM

My forums use a plugin that the user can mark as a support question. If it’s not resolved, the admin are well aware of it.

I personally prefer forums over support tickets just because of the search feature. Also, with tickets, I feel it a bit impersonal. If a forum is run correctly, the users get to know the owners and vice-versa.

For duplicate posts, I usually use the post content as another entry into my FAQ section.

Managing Comments With Ajax Edit Comments

@Jean-Paul Horn -
that’s odd. I thought we addressed the query problem in a previous version. I’ll take a look.

@Jean-Paul Horn -
thanks for the feedback. I’ll see what we can do to improve performance based on your suggestions.
