Three Plugins To Monitor Site Uptime

http://vudu.me/36t
Here’s a quick article I did, with links to sources included. Handy Google spreadsheet that notifies me if a site goes down. No fancy tools or anything, but still kinda cool.

A little writeup with some links, I’ve actually been using a Google spreadsheet I stumbled across online to send me emails when my sites go down. Kinda cool.

Good Or Bad? Infinite Scrolling

I’ll admin, I saw it, I tried it. I removed it…. it got old quickly, and it’s not my thing.
I’m not sure that visitors ‘get it’ for regular blogs/sites yet… so you’ve gotta explain/indicate the behaviour, or provide quality options for getting to your content.
I’ll stick to plain old page numbers for now.

Please Don’t Use The Post Title As A Hyperlink

Hmmm, my personal blog (rvoodoo.com) does that. Well, not in the RSS feed, but on the site. I only implemented it like that on the one site, the others use a text/icon link. I set it up like that without really thinking, pretty much back when the formats were in Beta. I hadn’t really even thought about it. But I can see the point here…. Luckily, I was just starting on a new theme for my blog, I’ll be switching up how I handle links.

Chip Bennett Working On New Template Hierarchy Diagram

Yup, same thing happened to me on your site Chip, no feedback on commenting. Was stating that I send people to the diagram very frequently from the forums, and VoodooPress. Your diagram is far better than the word chart I had running, which was only one step up from a cocktail napkin. Much appreciate the effort!

Alex King Releases Post Formats Admin UI Code

I agree, it’s a great UI for the formats. For core implementation though, it would need to rely on something other than meta data for the additional inputs. But I’m happy with it as it is, and I definitely think it’s something to consider for core

A Theme With 70 Different Widget Spots

Wow! You know, I can almost see how that thought process might go down. Looking for maximum customizeability, etc. Dive into the rabbit hole, and just keep going.

Share Your Experience With WordPress 3.3 Beta 1 With Me Tonight

I’d love to….but I’ll be tied up! Stoopid school

There’s some issues I’ve come across though. I’m kind of niche I think, as I do most of my work on WP at work, stuck with IE7. I’m super happy though, out of 4 bugs I found and reported, 3 have been fixed, and 1 is actively being worked on. One of them had made the flyout menus unusable, I’m so happy that’s been taken care of.

Using 3.3 at home though, is a treat. I really dig the drag and drop uploader. I’m not 100% sold on the flyouts, but I can live with them. I’ll be looking forward to the podcast though, to see what others have found.

Some Not Happy With Flyout Menus

@Otto – Oh I totally understand. All of the issues save 1 with IE7 have been remedied. I totally understand that IE7 is old crap. But I’m still stuck using it at work. So when WP drops support for it, if my work hasn’t upgraded, I’ll be SOL. But until that time…. I just keep hopin I can work on my sites at work!

I’m totally happy with the response I’ve gotten. I found 4 fairly critical issues (for me at least) which completely blocked functionality. 3 of the items are fixed, 1 nearly so. I don’t care if things look pretty or anything, just want basic functionality. Which I got, good stuff WP team!

As far as functionality, I don’t care either way with the menus. I don’t necessarily see the need for change though. However, I am having a boatload of issues on IE7, which I have to use for the majority of my WP work (not by choice).
Opened a variety of tickets centred around IE7, one involving the uploader that was successfully closed/fixed.

Is the one I have for the flyouts that was closed/fixed, however, the fix doesn’t work.
Basically the menus on IE7 are unusable. The tuck behind everything on the admin page.
