Displaying 1 To 13 Of 13 Comments Yoast On Why Some Themes Hurt Your SEO He’s completely right ! Almost every theme will say SEO friendly, once I get them out of the box they are a disappointment. I guess that’s why almost everyone downloads a SEO plugin, to make up for the poor themes. » Posted By Jonathan On March 7, 2012 @ 9:25 PM Links In Image Captions Possibly Coming In WP 3.4 I had this problem a while back. I ended up modifying how it inserts and Viper’s Native Gallery Lightbox plugin to allow for links. Works well, but would definitely rather see this natively in WordPress. » Posted By Jonathan On February 10, 2012 @ 1:22 PM Some Orgnizations And WordPress Just Don’t Mix As much as it pains me to say it, I agree with a lot of his points to why it’s not a full-fledged CMS. One major pain point we have with using WordPress, is version management; both from a code and content perspective. WordPress does a horrible job of allowing version control and moving between environments; ie having a staging environment, testing the code, making sure the content looks good, then pushing to a production environment. WordPress was and is, largely designed for a single-instance, running on a single box, with not a lot of moving parts. Where that simply isn’t, or at least shouldn’t be, the case in the corporate world. Corporations don’t have the luxury of editing code live on a website, or developing a theme, taking down the site, then pushing it up afterwards. It needs to happen seamlessly. WordPress has gotten a lot better in the past few years, but it’s still a ways off from where it needs to be for full corporate backing and usage. » Posted By Jonathan On January 10, 2012 @ 9:46 AM WordPress Support Forum For Localhost Installs About time there’s a forum category for this. It was cryptic to figure out where it should go before, now it’s clear. Good job for the moderators and team recognizing that. » Posted By Jonathan On December 27, 2011 @ 4:22 PM Recaps From The WordPress Core Team Meetup Totally agree with the last part, WordPress.org needs an overhaul and a lot of attention. It’s still very core to the community and has lacked a lot of attention in the past few years. » Posted By Jonathan On December 20, 2011 @ 11:39 AM I definitely run into issues with managing widgets, particularly when it’s pertaining to wanting specific widgets on certain pages — not all widgets on all pages. I’ve been using Widget Context to achieve it, and it’s been working really well. But I totally agree that the widget area of WordPress needs some love. » Posted By Jonathan On December 7, 2011 @ 2:43 PM Congrats Donncha! » Posted By Jonathan On December 6, 2011 @ 10:05 AM Flexible Widgets – Only Works For Certain Widgets Honestly, I wish this were in the core. I come across a lot of use cases where I’m constantly wanting to put specific widgets on specific pages or types of pages, and not globally across the board. Great plugin though, I’ll definitely be using it. » Posted By Jonathan On September 12, 2011 @ 4:37 PM Should Automatic Upgrades Be Opt-In? Maybe there should be a setting for automatic upgrades or not. Someone like myself, I know how to maintain my site and I’ll upgrade for versions which I feel it’s appropriate. Not every single upgrade is required to use a plugin. What if it’s just a translation addition? I really don’t need it, it’s already in English (usually.) Or something minor, and I just don’t want to upgrade. There should *always* be a way to make it optional and manual, never, ever, forced automatic upgrades. » Posted By Jonathan On September 12, 2011 @ 4:45 PM Awesome to hear Jeff! Congrats on the sale and I’m looking forward to your continued contribution to the community :) » Posted By Jonathan On June 11, 2011 @ 3:13 PM WordPress Support Forum And Themes I reckon that the issue is not whether it’s permitted to show some pieces of code in forums, as it is not a question of copyright. Copyright arises when a material portion of the work is used. Here we are discussing minute portions, which may fall under 17 USC 107, which is the fair use clause. Fair use is allowed use of a work, reproducing it or copying it, where the use is for criticism, education or review, which are the causes here. Moreover, if we examine the Israeli Copyright Act, then we understand that the exclusive rights in copyright are granted for the work or a substantial part thereof. Here we do not discuss substantial parts of the work. I think that this falls under self-study or educational purposes, and therefore fair. Now I am sitting at a screen and it wants me to set up the site again from scratch. Anyone know how I can get back my data… » Posted By jonathan On June 21, 2010 @ 11:54 AM Great Group Interview With Popular Theme Designers I read the same article when it released and you’re right. Initially it was somewhat discouraging when they talked about nobody else should enter in the premium WP market, but I completely agree with what you said: “That might be true, but don’t let those words discourage you. There is always room for someone who does themes better whether it be design, user interface, or functionality.” While it is difficult, everything takes time and hard work. This goes for anything. Good job with what you’re doing here btw. » Posted By Jonathan On March 26, 2010 @ 1:28 PMComments Posted By Jonathan
