Too Much RSS Noise? Get An Email Daily Digest

@Andrew – I try to make every post something of quality. Doesn’t always work but when I publish something here on the site, it’s usually because I have something to say.

@Chip Bennett – This is true. I’m also a fan of quality versus quantity. At least the email daily digest is there for those who want it.

@Ryan – Exactly. There is so much happening in the WordPress community that I could sit here 8 hours a day writing about stuff and not run out of content. It’s coming up with great things to add to the conversation which is the hard part.

@Dave – Well, everyone’s definition of good content is different. I don’t think every post published on this site is good content. Like you said, the daily digest does offer a nice way to organize the post activity on this site. Plus, getting a daily digest through email is more accessible than a feedreader since email can be accessed and used in more places and on more devices than a feedreader.

Six Apart Bridging The Gap

@Brad – Cool, can’t wait for us to get together this Friday evening and talk about our experiences.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 20, 2009 @ 5:17 PM

@Edward Caissie – On the surface, it looks like the move was for good intentions. But Six Apart is a business and this is also a great business move for them. So who knows.

@Andrew – Good question, one in which I won’t answer because I’m not interested :)

@redwall_hp – Yeah, I like seeing Matt and Anil Dash go back and forth every once in awhile to stoke up the fire but it’s nice to see stuff like this happening.

@Leland – I like rivalry’s and competition but when you stop to think about it, it really is end users who get the most out of this deal. So, nothing to really complain about.

My WordCamp Columbus Experience

@Miroslav Glavic – Don’t I need a passport now to get into Canada? How much does one of those things cost?

To be fair, there was a third track set up for the unconference room where people could breaks out and do mini sessions. I believe there was one or two newby sessions in that room. But I think a full blown presentation covering the ins and outs for beginners would be a nice touch.

The founders told me they have me marked down as a possible speaker for next year heh!

Coverage Of WordCamp Columbus

As it turns out, the business card was a hit! No one thought I was running a bar and they loved the whole idea surrounding a Tavern atmosphere and WordPress.

@Conorp – Nope, no episode this week. I participated on another show to talk about WordPress last night. We’ll be back on next week.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 16, 2009 @ 5:58 AM

@JLeuze – Well, I’ll try to be on top of things, will have to see how it goes.

@Conorp – If I do have video, it will be published in a blog post later today so just check the site later on today or keep a watch in the forums on the WordCamp Columbus thread.

WordPress Plugin Compatibility Checker

Yeah, I hope a bunch of plugin authors take a look at this site to pick up on things similar to what happened to you. I think if that happened, maybe more plugins would be updated and more would be in compliance with the repository guidelines. I think this also goes to show you what can actually make it to the repository.

People Who Rock WordPress

Thanks to whomever submitted me to the directory. I had a feeling that if I published a post about it, someone would submit me even if I requested not to be. But, I’ll take it. Quite the accomplishment to be mentioned on the same page as all of those other talented WordPress Rockstars.

@Andrew – LOL you’re not the first to tell me a hasselhoff joke :P

@Justin Tadlock – Well gee, it’s certainly not me!

Make BuddyPress Look Like Facebook

@Phillip – Thanks for the update. I’ve added that information to the bottom of the post. Even the search results on their site for the Facebook theme point to their BuddyPress social theme.

Are You Ready To Wpazo?

@Andrew – Well then how do you pronounce it?

» Posted By Jeffro On May 9, 2009 @ 5:43 PM

@Ian Stewart – Well, the way it was setup and it’s a single authored site not taking submissions, I pretty much concluded it was your personal link drop but with the benefit of other people being able to see what you discovered.

@tony – Thanks Tony for stopping by to help out Sarah. That’s awfully nice of you :)

SitePoint Gives Primer On Parent Child Themes

@rgregory – That might be the case. I know they both have a skeleton child theme, widget maps, etc. It’s going to be tough to be different than the others but I think Ian and Justin both offer something unique to the table.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 7, 2009 @ 5:13 PM

@rgregory – I don’t think Hybrid is taking any cues from Thematic. Just is doing his own thing while Ian does his. I bet if you looked at the code and their underlying framework, they are both probably pretty different.

Joomla Marries WordPress?

@Brad – No doubt and I’ll never disagree with someone using the tool for the job.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 7, 2009 @ 5:17 PM

@Brad – Well that’s good. I guess they are working on 1.6 every now and then I go to http://www.opensourcecms.com/ and browse around through Joomla just to see what it’s like and I still hate it.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 7, 2009 @ 5:06 PM

lol, I think you need to start a Joomla Theme blog, I bet it would be exciting to write about considering what is going on over there.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 7, 2009 @ 4:35 PM

@Brad – That was not around in 2007 which is why I never saw it :) so my argument stands at least for the time period I used it. Now I could just as easily use a third party commenting service like IntenseDebate or Disqus and I would have been happy. Glad to see that problem fixed in a sort of weird way.

A Refreshing New Look For Darren Hoyt

@Darren Hoyt – Hey Darren, thanks for stopping by. I wouldn’t mind just writing about this stuff all day everyday but until it can pay the bills, just going to have to work my way into it. Congrats on the freelance life, it must feel pretty good to know that you’re in control of your destiny.

A Question For Premium Theme Authors

Well, glad we settled that! Great to know that if I have a pondering question or a scenario, I can just plop it onto the blog and get help figuring it out :) Thanks Chip.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 2, 2009 @ 12:37 PM

@Dan Cole – During the Thesis escapade yesterday, I thought about writing a post which listed things that premium themes have done to further free theme development. I think I’ll do that but in a different way.

By the way, any theme developer which does not have a license compliant with the GPL can be classified as a leach.

» Posted By Jeffro On May 2, 2009 @ 12:38 AM

@Chip Bennett – Hmm so in the end, it looks like this is a no brainer and it is perfectly acceptable for someone who has purchased the theme to send it to me to perform edits and then ship it back.

@David – I bet most theme authors feel the same way. Anytime that theme is sent over to someone else, you end up with that thought in the back of your head wondering if they have redistributed it or if they deleted it or if they are saving it for themselves. I can see how it could be unnerving.

So in the end, looks like what this boils down to is the moral or ethical awareness of the person making the edit?

The Header Won’t Be Changing In 2.8

@Mr Papa – I’m pretty sure the flyout only happens when you hove over a menu item so it shouldn’t be that bad.

@Kaspars – After reading Andrews post and then yours, I think some of the choices in that poll went above and beyond solving the problem and created a whole new menu which was not the purpose of the exercise. Maybe the whole title should be a link to the blog. As for the favorite actions block, it’s all the way on the right hand side of the site and I my brain never stops to think about using that block to gain access to anything. I dunno, it’s weird. I’ve been clicking Edit – New Post on the left to write a new post LOL

How To Screw Up Your Image

@Andrew – Well, maybe the soon to be renamed Gorilla Theme project will fit the bill and perhaps I’ll participate in that group and see what happens – http://www.wptavern.com/matt-takes-notice-of-gorilla-project

@Brad – I have asked him this question before. In fact, I’m pretty sure I asked him about child themes as well which are mostly CSS and images. Please see this post and read down until you get to the point where we discuss that aspect of themes and the GPL.

http://www.wpsnippets.com/2008/12/transcript-of-wordpress-weeklys-interview-with-matt-mullenweg-december-2008-part-2/

Even though Matt may know the GPL inside and out, it’s hard to say one way or the other because no court cases have gone through to set a precedence on what is and is not GPL compliant.
