Displaying 451 To 480 Of 728 Comments 7 Tips For Customers And Theme Authors @Andrea_R – Yeah, been down that road plenty of times. I’ve gotten so frustrated with finding out that in order to achieve the same look, I have to do custom field this and custom field that, install this plugin, etc. It’s like WOW! didn’t know it was going to be that tough or else I would have kept my money! » Posted By Jeffro On August 10, 2009 @ 4:17 PM Taking Out The WordPress Trash @Peter – I should have added to the post that the de-link stuff you see in the image is not part of core. That is from the Ajax Edit Comments plugin that I use. Unless you know of this functionality coming to core which I’m not aware of. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 5:21 PM @Dgold – Seems like a valid point although when I think of Delete, I think of permanent removal, not moving the item to storage for deletion later. The ticket for this functionality is located here. http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4529 We should voice our thoughts and opinions in that ticket than on the comment form :) » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:37 PM @Chip Bennett – That sounds like an option to bring up at the meeting or in the trac ticket. I’ll be sure to keep it in mind if I get to the meeting this week. Right now however, there are no settings or optional behaviour. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:10 PM Review Of Advanced Exporter For WP/WPMU @Kel – I don’t know. There has to be a reason though besides links not being important enough to include. » Posted By Jeffro On October 13, 2009 @ 5:42 PM @Dgold – Here are some examples. Moving a specific section of content from one WordPress blog to another. Currently, there is no easy way to do this. Easily create multiple WXR files so you can import them in chunks instead of one large file. Export only the content you want instead of exporting everything. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:50 PM Ahh, it’s the WPMU all star team :) Thanks for creating it Ron. My guess is, it will do well in the voting stage of the competition. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:12 PM 15 Useful Hacks From WPBeginner @Syed Balkhi – I’ve been keeping watch on your site and it’s definetly been cool to see some of the code snippets you have available. Keep up the great job over there. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:13 PM @matt mcinvale – I didn’t forget the link, stupid WordPress displayed a revision of the post instead of the autosave, I don’t know how that happened. The link is there now though. » Posted By Jeffro On August 4, 2009 @ 6:45 PM Approve, Delete, Spam – How Do You Treat Specific Comments? @Kyle Eslick – I have no idea on why people bother. Maybe the people doing the human spamming are those who are part of Amazons Mechanical Turk program where for every successful comment link, they get 5 cents lol. @matt mcinvale – This is really funny because this is exactly the type of comment I would immediately just delete. I picked up on your sarcasm but Dan didn’t. @Martin – I never edit a spam comment. It’s either deletion, spam, or de-linking. @Dan Cole – Glad that’s been sorted. Just imagine the confusion if he would have used something like ‘Used Cars‘ as his name lol. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:18 PM @Ryan McCue – What would I be doing without you having my back? » Posted By Jeffro On August 4, 2009 @ 1:55 PM WordPress.org Is A Custom Web Hosting Provider? @Martin – Exactly. It’s just funny all the way around. @Banago – Yeah, not sure how they could think WordPress.org is a webhosting provider. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:27 PM @DD32 – LOL I have no idea what MailChimp has to do with anything in that Press Release » Posted By Jeffro On August 4, 2009 @ 3:49 AM WordPress Dev Chat For 7-30-09 @Stephen Cronin – Hah, you know, recently I went through every feed that Ozh had on his planet WordPress so I had them all in my FeedReader and I’d say a third of the sites were outdates, junk, not WP centric anymore, etc. I emailed him a list of these domains and he was appreciated of that so he could clean off the list. The WordPress community is an evolving series of sites that spring up but very few manage to live to a point where they become a recognized resource in the community. Just in my time running the Tavern, I’ve seen a number of WordPress sites spring up and 3 months later, they are done for. » Posted By Jeffro On August 4, 2009 @ 1:41 AM @Stephen Cronin – Thanks for your continued support Stephen. It’s appreciated. Right now, none of WPTavern.com is in the official WordPress planet feed. However, the WordPress.org category on this blog is part of Ozh’s planet WordPress. » Posted By Jeffro On August 4, 2009 @ 1:04 AM @Ozh – Thanks Ozh, great to see you back from holidays. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 2:54 PM @Lindsay – Well, it’s not like this changeover to PHP 5 or above is going to happen overnight. It’s a gradual change with 2.9 having the nag screen and more so when 3.0 comes around. Perhaps when the page is created in the Codex, I’ll publish a follow up article letting you know but I’d imagine percentages based on what they know will be published in that page. Most Webhosting companies are setting up to allow you to switch from PHP 4 to 5 or they might have upgraded the PHP behind the scenes which is what has happened with my webhost. If your webhost is stuck using PHP 4, I highly suggest submitting a trouble ticket asking them if they could upgrade their version of PHP and if not, explain the reasons why as it makes no sense unless the majority of their customer base is using PHP 4 based scripts. No need to freak out right now as there is still plenty of time left before the switch. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 2:53 PM @_ck_ – Well, most of what I read points to 5.3 not being an option to move towards. It’s more like PHP 5.0 at the least. Also, the suggestion was brought up by a user to discuss at the meeting, not proposed by the core developers. About the percentage, WordPress phones home to the WordPress API to check for plugin, theme, core upgrades. Part of the information that is sent back is the PHP version the site is running on. So in that case, wouldn’t they have the more accurate numbers? » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 2:04 PM @Kel – I know the title seems misleading but the meeting took place on Thursday, July 30th which is why I chose to put that date in the title. In the future. I hope to be a little more punctual with the post. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 12:00 PM What Exactly Is The Carrington Framework? @Andreas Nurbo – Lots of people seem to be taking that approach and having the same opinion about it. I’m going to have to download it and take a look for myself to see what all the fuss is about. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:34 PM WPWeekly Episode 66 – Interview With Scott Reilly Wellp, that wraps up the points for this week. Conorp and JLeuze are tied but who knows, I might have a few tricks up my sleeve. It was a pleasure to have Scott on. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 6:24 AM SitePoint bbPress Theme Community Project This sounds like a great project. I hope that what comes out of it is an excellent piece of work that can be considered for inclusion into bbPress core or, just become a really good foundation for bbPress theme building. » Posted By Jeffro On August 5, 2009 @ 1:30 PM Down Memory Lane With WordPress.com @nanochrome – I’ve thought about it, but man, WordPress.org has been through so much in that timespan that it would cover probably 3-4 pages in one post. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 6:28 AM @Ian – I do too. I know that Matt has read the article so I wonder if I triggered any nostalgia for him lol. @Oliver Schlöbe – Thanks for reading it Oliver. » Posted By Jeffro On July 31, 2009 @ 3:30 PM Hmm, out of all the comments here, I do think Dan makes a lot of great points. The next time I have Matt on the air for an interview, I’ll have to ask him about Hello dolly being bundled with WordPress. So far in that poll, 76% of people say it should be removed. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 6:31 AM Virtual WordCamp Virtually Disappears @Miroslav Glavic – I don’t know how many people paid but I sure hope they got a refund. » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 6:36 AM Screenshots Of bbPress.org Redesign Thanks for the feedback guys, I’ll keep on top of things and announce when the new design goes live. Heck, Josh will probably know before me. It’s interesting that if you go back in time, WordPress.org contained a site design that is very similar to the design of bbPress.org. I guess the two projects share more than just code :) » Posted By Jeffro On August 3, 2009 @ 6:42 AM I’m Boycotting The Spread Of FUD @that girl again – I agree with you and that’s pretty much what I said in the post. I don’t see any downsides to setting up a page that works the same for plugins as it does for themes. » Posted By Jeffro On July 29, 2009 @ 4:00 PM @Ron – You’re right, that is the perception of the public but if plugin authors were expected people to donate in droves, it’s a false assumption. If a plugin author wants to be paid for their work, they charge for it. They don’t get upset by the lack of donations. This post was just a way for me to scatch a number of itches that the linked to post gave me. Thanks for the comment Ron » Posted By Jeffro On July 29, 2009 @ 1:50 PM Share Your WordPress Security Nightmare @Max – I know there is this page on the Codex which explains what the permission scheme is for WordPress. http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions Hmm, I suppose I can whip up a post that explains what I do although it’s not much. Regarding the Codex, I couldn’t find an article strictly for that subject but maybe i’ll add it in on the Hardening WordPress page. » Posted By Jeffro On July 28, 2009 @ 10:25 PMComments Posted By Jeffro
