Displaying 421 To 450 Of 728 Comments Which Theme Company Has The Best Word Of Mouth? Hey, I could have added all sorts of theme companies to the list but then I’d be faced with a mile long poll. Using hindsight, I should have used PollDaddy to just ask one question and provide an open field for users to tell me their answer instead of choosing from a list. Pretty cool to see the discussions taking place here on why you’ve chosen one over the other. @Benjamin – I have no idea why WP-Polls lists anyone at a negative percentage. It did this with a different poll I ran as well. Could be a bug. Guess I should notify Lester and see if he knows about it. » Posted By Jeffro On September 3, 2009 @ 2:09 AM @JamieO – you might be the first person to ever use an unordered list in my comments form lol. I’ll look into it to see how easy it is to add a style for that. Your questions have been jotted down » Posted By Jeffro On August 31, 2009 @ 4:34 PM HookPress – Seems Like A Great Idea I think what I need to do is look more into the concept of Webhooks itself and then come back and review the plugin/idea as then I’ll have a better understanding of how useful this could be. Keep up the great work on the YARPP plugin! » Posted By Jeffro On September 3, 2009 @ 2:14 AM WordCamp Hitting The Big Apple Learned today that Sivel and I will both be crashing at Brads place during the event. This should be fun. » Posted By Jeffro On September 10, 2009 @ 7:26 PM @Darren Hoyt – I don’t do karaoke but Aaron Brazell I’m sure would be all over that. @Andrea_R – Hmm, so I’ll finally figure out who the WPMU Guru actually is. » Posted By Jeffro On September 3, 2009 @ 2:02 AM @Andrea_R – Hey that will be pretty cool to meet up with the uber husband and wife WPMU team :) @Brad – LOL When I get there Brad, I will secretly turn on my recorder and ask questions related to the PHPBB bridge! @Miroslav Glavic – Sounds like a good dinner. But I’m sure BBQ will be around somewhere. » Posted By Jeffro On August 31, 2009 @ 2:39 PM iThemes Responds To Speculation – All Is Well @Cory Miller – Well, it’s not as if we were demonizing IThemes or anything, just public chatter regarding the company but as co founder, you did the right thing in noticing the chatter and addressing it face first before it became anything more. And hey, no better way to hear it than from the horses mouth :) @Chris Jean – Well, in this day in age, if no one sees any public activity on a company blog or in various other circles for about 2 weeks, people start thinking the company/service is dead. Weird, but that is how it is. Until proven otherwise, speculation about the death of the company ensues and only continues to grow and get wilder. Of course, if there is nothing wrong with the company, the longer they keep silent the worst the chatter becomes. @Nathan – Do you have any further information to backup this opinion? In the past two years of being involved in the WordPress community, I’ve seen nothing to indicate this to be true of iThemes. » Posted By Jeffro On August 27, 2009 @ 6:06 AM Who Needs eBay When You Have WP Auctions? So today, I’ve gone through the random number picker between 1-7 which is the total number of unique comments published on this post. Comment number 4 which is Danny G Smith was chosen. What I did was close my eyes and just clicked the Get Random button a bunch of times. Congratulations Danny, Hyder will be in touch with you to get you a copy of the plugin and thanks to everyone who commented on the review. I hope you all found it helpful in some way. » Posted By Jeffro On August 31, 2009 @ 7:11 AM WPWeekly Episode 69 – Grava what Ok dokey. Scores are updated and nope, no points for fourth place! Conorp, you’re losing your edge LOL. » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 4:29 PM Have You Enjoyed Your Stay At The Tavern So Far? @dg – I tell ya, comments like yours are rejuvenating. If WPTavern had a mantra, I’m pretty sure your comment would be it. @Jean-Baptiste Jung – Just glad to have you around Jean despite you not being a member of this particular community for a long time. You’ve definitely provided quite a bit to the overall WordPress community between CatsWhoCode and WPRecipes. @JLeuze – Well, I could take the credit for that but then I’d be in trouble. So I’d like to thank Kim and Kit for helping to keep things in order around the Tavern. I try to include coverage of anything I see interesting whether it be WordPress or an Automattic owned service. Thanks for the kind words. @matt mcinvale – Free as in GPL? :) @Paul – Heh. Thanks. No offense taken. @Laura Kalbag – Yeah, Ozh’s little banner ad made my entire week! Thanks for sticking around Laura. @Kyle Eslick – So whenever anyone asks me how this got started, I’ll be mentioning your name for eternity :P Thanks again for giving me a sweet deal on the domain, I’m pretty sure I’ve put it to good use. @Darren Hoyt – Pleasure to have you around Darren, and I love it when people publish their ideas in the forum. Always like seeing people come up with something innovative, even if it’s from left field. Hoping the feedback the surrounding community provides helps turn the project into a success. @Epic Alex – Well, I can’t take any credit for that. The reason you get great replies is because of all the other smart WordPress people that have decided to participate on the forum. I have them to thank for answering the tough questions. @Brad Potter – Man, it must suck to come to the Tavern during the day and not see anything new published on the blog or on the forum lol. Because of you, I have to try and amp up my consistency so I can satisfy your appetite every day. And of course, if I need to know about a new theme, I know who to ask! » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 4:11 PM @Joost De Valk – That is great news. Just subscribed to it and am looking forward to hearing the first half of the interview with Frederick. @Frederick Townes – Thanks for the compliments on the question. By the way, I wanted to say thank you and commend you for contributing back to the WordPress community through your W3 Total Cache plugin. Will be interesting to see how it scores amongst all the other plugins in the competition. Seeing large sites that are powered by WordPress give back in this way is the exception rather than the rule. » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 3:43 PM @Martin – Me too. I think there are a number of great suggestions in that comment thread. By the way, we have this to look into from Matt: portent of things to come. We could have some fun and try to decipher what that means! @Andrea_R – Yeah, overall I think it gives a much clearer picture of what Gravatar is all about without having to dive deep under the surface. » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 3:39 PM Nominate WordPress In The OpenSource CMS Awards @Alex – No problem Alex. I gotta give credit where credit is due when I find out about something :) » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 3:27 PM Roll Your Own URL Shortener With Pretty Link @Matt – Which part is a ripoff? The pro version of the plugin? » Posted By Jeffro On August 19, 2009 @ 2:47 PM More Info On The Handbook Project @Andreas Nurbo – Hmm, I wonder how difficult it will be for them to theme the handbooks and if that theme will transfer into the PDF file for the handbook. I’m pretty sure most of the handbook or all of it will be in HTML so themeing shouldn’t be hard with CSS. » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 3:04 PM Are We Afraid To Do What We Want With Our Blogs? @Adii – Well, I’ve given it some thought and I’ve looked over Tumblr again and I suppose you have a point. @Jeremy – When you explain it like that, Tumblr definitely sounds like Twitter but for blogs. I’m sure WordPress could be turned into something similar as Tumblr but the social features and the ease of publishing different kinds of content and having it all look good I think is the issue here. @Chris – First off, good choice in themes :) Secondly, I can tell there is a difference between your asides posts and your normal posts. Although I’d prefer a little more visual difference between the two, I get what you’re saying. @Epic Alex – Taking a look at it, I see they use the chain link image and some other things to differentiate the short content versus the regular blog post content. I see the same problem though between this site and Chris’s and that is not enough visual difference between the two content forms. This must be what Adii was referring to regarding Tumblr and themes. @Alex Blundell – Over the past three months, I’ve seen Posterous popping up more and more in the news. I’m guessing what they have going on over their is a good thing. Have you tried using the built in “Press It” bookmarklet for quick bursts of information to your WordPress site? @Ben Cook – I think culture may have something to do with it. I mean, there are plenty of people who have a full blown blog and then an entirely separate site for short form content because apparently, the short form and the long form simply don’t mix well together visually. Definitely an interesting conversation and I hope it continues. @Kyle Eslick – This seems like a comment meant for this post: http://www.wptavern.com/roll-your-own-url-shortener-with-pretty-link » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 3:24 PM @donnacha | WordSkill – Thanks for the kind words. I suppose knowing why this or that feature is in WordPress is better than not knowing :) @Dan Cole – I think it’s wise to wait and see what the WordPress.org Redesign/Communication Reorganization brings. Perhaps after this happens, there won’t be a need for such a thing as the site will be one continous conversation about the evolution of WordPress. @JLeuze – Hmm, many people have voiced the same opinion. It looks like I should keep going to these meetings and raising concerns I see or hear in the WordPress community. Even if that means publishing a synopsis of what happened based on the log file. @Dan – After some other feedback I received along the same line as yours, I have to say that I know Jane wasn’t being dismissive of me, but just giving me the 411 as to who the developer meeting was for and who should really be contributing to the meeting. That’s all. I didn’t take offense or anything to what she said, it just makes it all clearer for me now. After the talk, I decided to rethink how I’m doing things because I was bringing in a bunch of end users into the room and doing some other things that were not productive to the meeting. Now that I have a better understanding of it all, I can stand back to watch/listen to what’s going on and report on that. @Dougal Campbell – Thanks Dougal. The overwhelming response is for me to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes and ears open even if I can’t help out with development. @dg – I’m beginning to realize this now. It’s almost as if I’m a liaison between the development and the end users. I think that’s a responsibility I can take on. @Matt – My post may have come off otherwise, but I’m with you, her intention was not for me to attend or continue doing what I’m doing, but just telling me what the purpose is behind the meetings and how they will be the most productive. I just noticed that some of the things I was doing didn’t help the cause so I thought it might be best to step back and let the developers do their thing. » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 3:00 PM Backend Communication Via Act As Group Plugin @Ozh – Well, I turned in my scorecard earlier this morning but I’ve decided not to review any more plugins until the winner has been decided. » Posted By Jeffro On August 24, 2009 @ 2:45 PM Category Templates To Become Easier To Style @Peter Kahoun – Yeah, Scribu is pretty cool. He’s the same person who developed the Front End Editor plugin I reviewed here http://www.wptavern.com/review-of-front-end-editor-plugin @Adam W. Warner – Ahh yes. I’ve seen the link being passed around on Twitter. I’m glad someone finally wrote a post dealing with the category icons plugin. Is it still being developed? Last time I checked, it was pretty outdated. » Posted By Jeffro On August 17, 2009 @ 3:33 AM WPWeekly Episode 68 – Hey, I Didn’t Change My Password! @JLeuze – Yeah, glad to see most of the Google summer of code projects made it past the pencil down date. Whether or not the code or full project will be used in core is another question. Congrats on being first again. @conorp – A decent second place showing :) @Epic Alex – Yep. This round was pretty easy this week. I need to find a question that will stump people. » Posted By Jeffro On August 17, 2009 @ 3:08 AM @Matt – Well that’s good to know. It was my understanding based on Joost’s interview with him that it was a part time gig. At any rate, glad to hear the Automattic team is growing and I hope he does well for the team. His search unleashed plugin is pretty cool. » Posted By Jeffro On August 17, 2009 @ 3:00 AM Do You Think The Codex Is The Future Of Documentation For WordPress? This might explain things much better than I could about the handbook project. http://lists.automattic.com/pipermail/wp-docs/2009-August/002034.html » Posted By Jeffro On August 18, 2009 @ 6:52 PM @Andreas Nurbo – I can’t remember what was said regarding different languages but I can see the different handbooks having separate downloadable translations much like WordPress so it’s not all bundled in one place which is one of the problems the Codex has. @Edward Caissie – I’m pretty sure that’s what this new documentation project is going to do. Take the best of both worlds and combine them into one. I imagine it will be much easier to manage as well. @Viper007Bond – Hmm, even after the work that could be put into the Codex, I think it would be curing a symptom of a larger problem. With a streamlined managed way of handling the documentation instead of it being a free for all I believe is the way to go. Thankfully, it seems to new documentation project still have that free for all feel. @Martin – I’m the same way. Would be nice if I put in a function or template tag exactly how it is, that it would be the first search result. But usually, it’s a page buried somewhere within the results that I have to go search out. @Lyndi – Well, the Codex isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so the new handbooks will be IN ADDITION to. @JLeuze – You hit it on the nose. I think attention will be steered more towards these handbooks at least for a few months to see how it goes. I imagine if it doesn’t go as planned, the Codex will be there as the backup plan and perhaps, might go through a revitalization effort. @John Myrstad – I don’t understand how that would help as wouldn’t be better to just have the Core developers/experts write the content in the first place? They are too busy for that so I don’t see how this could be feasible. » Posted By Jeffro On August 17, 2009 @ 3:31 AM @Will Anderson – What if you took the best that the Codex hand to offer, segmented it into various projects/categories like Themes/Plugins/Core Development/End Users etc. Each handbook is managed by Trac which still allows for end user contributions but allows for quality control. Instead of cleaning everything up. Leave the Codex there but build something new and start over. » Posted By Jeffro On August 14, 2009 @ 4:20 PM @Ryan – Sure, I might be able to do something like that. But one thing i learned with this particular screencast is that it would have been much better to just split it up into 4 or 5 parts instead of one big one. If I did that, I bet it would have been much better » Posted By Jeffro On August 17, 2009 @ 3:39 AM @Carl Hancock – See, if I wrote a review of the plugin, I probably would have caught that. Now I understand why the original screencast didn’t have any audio lol. Maybe I should have put together something with screen overlays! :) » Posted By Jeffro On August 14, 2009 @ 12:53 PM Synergy Project Still Swinging @Chris – My pleasure Chris. I’m keeping my eyes on the project even if I can’t participate as much as I’d like. » Posted By Jeffro On August 17, 2009 @ 3:40 AM WordPress.com Testing A New Look By the way, they have redesign the sidebar but mostly just to tell people to tell them what they should put in that sidebar. http://surveys.polldaddy.com/s/09CCC3C75BD4144B/ What do you guys think? » Posted By Jeffro On August 14, 2009 @ 7:40 AM @Martin – Not sure if it’s a record or not. Now I wonder if we’ll see a WP 2.8.5 as a bug fix/maintenance release before October 31st or if this is it. » Posted By Jeffro On August 11, 2009 @ 10:30 PM 7 Tips For Customers And Theme Authors @Brad Potter – Yeah, I didn’t even mention documentation on the list. As for your suggestion of dummy content, pretty sure we had this discussion at some point in time. I think it’s a good idea. Doesn’t Brian Gardner do this with his themes? @Martin – Ughh, custom fields. Thank goodness for Just Tadlocks Get The Image script! @Andreas Nurbo – The more screenshots of the theme, the better. It wouldn’t hurt. » Posted By Jeffro On August 12, 2009 @ 6:37 AMComments Posted By Jeffro
