Seems like you could have used Mailchimp and saved $39 plus got a badass email marketing system to boot.

I get the value of highly customized forms, but paying for a simple contact form?

VideoPress Now Supports HTML 5 Video Playback

Actually, all VideoPress videos are encoded as both MP4 and OGG, so they should all work with the new HTML5 player.

It’s just the old player itself that was Flash-based.

Have You Removed Or Disabled The Admin Bar?

I love the admin bar. I find it makes carrying out admin tasks much easier, and I’ve been learning how to customise it further. A positive step forward in my view.

What To Do Or Consider After You Enable Multisite In WordPress

I agree with @Ron

For most of my sites I build a custom login form into the homepage (or other page) so the default wp-login is only seen occasionally by users – who don’t need to register. A majority of the time, someone going to the login page and then trying to sign up is going to be a spammer.

If you want to lower admin privileges on individual sites you’ll definitely want some kind of role management. The Admin Menu editor just hides/adjusts the menu placement. If they know the full admin link, they’d still be able to access those areas.

What you’re looking for is a “membership” plugin. I know that Justin Tadlock had worked on a plugin for wordpress called members and here’s a link. It may accomplish what you want, but I’ve never tested it myself on multi-site. There are several out there if you do a google search.

Also, wpmu premium dev just released a pretty full-featured plugin that I believe would do what you’re looking for, but it may be overkill.

Now THAT is amazing. I love Shakespeare’s. I’m dropping you a note on your site form. If you get this grab my phone number there or hit me up on twitter. I’ll be around all evening.

Adam,

Thanks for your response. You are correct it should be directory – not category. I’ll note that and see about getting it updated. Thanks for the read through!

Very cool Jeff.
I’m editing that video I shot of Matt’s keynote and will have it on THE Tech Scoop (http://www.thetechscoop.net) in the next few hours.

It was great being on your show today as well.

A Look At The New Menu UI

I’ve worked with several software development projects and this kind of thing frequently happens as more and more features are built into the software. The interface becomes complex frustrating and/or overwhelming for users because so many options are available, or the new functions are hidden from view and the user never has any idea they even exist.

Look at Microsoft Office and the radical change they made back in 2007. There are numerous options available – too many to show in any meaningful way. There solution was the “ribbon” design that shows you the most logical menu options based on what task you are trying to accomplish. If you’re not editing a picture, you don’t see those options.

I think this is a great idea for discussion as WordPress advances. Either that or (gasp) features should really be added as plugins. I already end up spending quite a bit of my dev time subtracting or hiding menu options for my users because, depending on the project, they may never have use for some of these features and the extra options just become distractions.

Backup Buddy Is A Home Run

yeah the premium plugins that PluginBuddy offers are pretty good. I see they’re offering 10% off for today for the BackupBuddy.

This is a necessary plugin that, really you hope you never have to use.

I, like Jeff, highly recommend this plugin

WPMU Premium Now The PremiumPress

Hi,

Was an interesting read and then noticed how they are almost ripping of premium press themes.. how unimaginative is their domain name.. THE premiumpress… ??

http://www.premiumpress.com is the offical website.

Not sure why they couldn’t think of a better name since Premium Press already does WordPress themes and had been around for ages.

Anyways your maps looks good but not sure i like the idea of a company who piggy backs off another..

WPWeekly Episode 88 – Woo For Menu Management

My Thoughts On WordPress Weekly

Jeff: I’m thinking that the dilemma is partly with the show being live. While that is a huge benefit for on-the-spot learning from subject matter experts…you’ll never satisfy everyone, especially since you’ve got an international audience.

My vote, for a day and time, would probably be Thursday evening or Sunday early evening.

As I mentioned in my tweet a few moments ago, I’m willing to step to the plate and assist helping you carry on this great show you have.

I love your show. It’s one quite late for people who live in Europe, so I enjoy each episode by downloading the mp3, which I’m doing right now. Obviously live participation is desirable, and sometimes I think I wished I could have called in to ask something. Anyhow, I hope you can find a suitable time in your busy schedule to run the show.
