Displaying 1 To 11 Of 11 Comments Automatically Correcting The WordPress Mistake If it was discussed as aggressively as it is being discussed now prior to the patch being introduced it probably never would have made it into core. Now that it is in core, it will be much harder to remove. Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: “Faced with the choice between changing one’s mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof. ” » Posted By Drew Strojny On July 6, 2010 @ 3:59 PM FeedBurner Relevancy And RSS Subscriber Numbers I dropped Feedburner about 6 months ago and haven’t looked back. The service just isn’t that valuable to my users and the built in WordPress feeds work great. With that being said, I do think it is an important stat if you are trying to attract advertisers. » Posted By Drew Strojny On June 30, 2010 @ 2:44 PM Thanks for including me in your list Jeff, I appreciate it :) » Posted By Drew Strojny On April 7, 2010 @ 11:10 PM Review Of Traction Pro By The Theme Foundry @Jeffro – You made brought up some great points. It is always meaningful to hear from a regular user like yourself, because it gives me a different perspective on certain features and options. This perspective helps me improve the theme, so it is a win-win. Looking forward to that post on your dream advertising system :) » Posted By Drew Strojny On April 1, 2010 @ 10:06 AM Thanks for the review Jeff! I appreciate all the great things you said about Traction. That being said, I am even more excited about improving on the shortcomings you mentioned :) Custom Logo Thanks for bringing this up. Using FTP is much more of a hassle than a built-in uploader and I plan on adding this functionality soon. Navigation I couldn’t agree more with you here, and I plan on taking full advantage of the new menu system in WordPress 3.0. It is great that this functionality can finally be moved into the WordPress core. Thanks WooThemes! Advertising I am so glad you brought this up. I don’t do any advertising across my sites so I have limited knowledge of what someone like you is looking for when it comes to advertising options. I know you have talked about it briefly before, but any further insight you have into “key” features of an advertising system would be great. What are the “must haves” you are looking for when it comes to an advertising system? Footer About Widget You make another excellent point here, if someone could just create a text widget then why is a dedicated “About” section necessary? I am going to replace it with a widget in the next release of Traction. » Posted By Drew Strojny On March 31, 2010 @ 11:09 PM Can A Theme Developer Put Himself Out Of Business? This is exciting stuff for themes and theme end users. I am looking forward to the release. My two cents on why this won’t put anyone out of business: It eventually comes back to “design”. Think about it, these tools give everyone the chance to design but that doesn’t equate to everyone designing well. In fact, I tend to see the opposite effect. There will always be a market for a well designed theme that meets a need out of the box. The other issue is speed and code bloat. It is impossible to build an entire WYSIWYG drag and drop theme editor on top of WordPress without introducing some markup bloat on the front end. Think about using a tool like Dreamweaver versus professionally hand coding an HTML template from scratch. The finished product may look similar to the end user but the code tells a different story. » Posted By Drew Strojny On November 30, 2009 @ 12:31 AM Roll Your Own Lifestream With WordPress I replied to you in the comments on the original post. I agree with Jeff, this is more of a Tumblr like approach then what you are referring to and I probably should have named the post more appropriately. With that said, the different terms are often used ambiguously and I am not sure their are clear and established guidelines of what exactly defines “lifestreaming”. » Posted By Drew Strojny On October 5, 2009 @ 3:24 PM WordPress.com Testing A New Look Thanks for the heads up Jeff. I am digging the new design, looks like they are using a grid. I was also excited to see a screenshot of Vigilance underneath the “Gorgeous Themes” header in the sidebar. » Posted By Drew Strojny On August 12, 2009 @ 11:08 AM Can WordPress Be A Project Management App? This post reminds me of the Charlie Munger’s The Psychology of Human Misjudgement speech to Harvard Law School. Specifically the part where he talks about the “man-with-a-hammer syndrome”: What gummed up Skinner’s reputation is that he developed a case of what I always call man-with-a-hammer syndrome: to the man with a hammer, every problem tends to look pretty much like a nail. I think this is a perfect example. Why go through all that trouble to try and make WordPress something it is not? Just use the right tool and get on with it. » Posted By Drew Strojny On July 15, 2009 @ 12:41 PM How Do I Contribute To Commercial GPL Themes? Our themes are GPL and free to download. This gives anyone out there the opportunity to send us bugs and/or bug fixes and contribute code. In fact, we have had several of our PRO members contribute back useful customizations in the support forums. I think making our themes available as a free download encourages participation from other developers. Right now we are in the midst of internationalizing our most popular theme, Vigilance, so we are looking for international users to help with that process. Of course, spreading the word to your friends and colleagues is oftentimes the best gift you can give back to a theme developer. » Posted By Drew Strojny On July 9, 2009 @ 8:06 PM Matt Takes Notice Of Gorilla Project I have to agree with the approach. We are taking a similar approach and feel it is the best way to “add value” and still release killer “free premium” themes. You build the community around the great themes and then add value for those that want it. » Posted By Drew Strojny On May 2, 2009 @ 2:22 PMComments Posted By Drew Strojny
