Screencast: Basic Image Editing In WordPress 2.9

It’s a nice start, but really, who in their right mind uploads an image that is oriented wrong and needs to “flip” it?
If they tweak up the cropping tool, great. It should display the pixel sizes as you drag, but maybe that just didn’t show up in the screencast. The undo tool is essential and seems to work great.

I’m waiting for the dev team to move to a media library that is not tied to each post. (WP 3.x?).

For now, I’ll stick with editing my photos (Irfanview) before I upload them.

Thanks for the screencast Jeff.

First Episode Of Press This Is Out The Door

I enjoyed Joost’s new show very much. I think he’ll make a good host and interviewer.

For now, the show is not showing up in their feed, so a manual download is necessary. (I don’t use iTunes and don’t know if it’s in there or not.)

Looking forward to show #2.

Listener Poll: What Day Of The Week Should I Record WordPress Weekly?

Hi Jeff, guess I missed the poll deadline, but I would’ve voted for Thurs.
FWIW.

The First Virtual WordCamp

I’d be interested in learning more details about the event, but that price is way too high for me.

Cashing In On WordPress Plugin Development

Ironically, I just posted on Twitter asking what is an acceptable donation level for plug-in authors.

I propose a Month of Donations for Plugin Authors. Where we as users pledge to donate at least $1 or more to our favorite plugins.

July or August? I’m in. Most WP users have in the range of +/- 20 plugins, and that amounts to $20 per person, give or take.

What say you?

Listener Poll: Did You Enjoy Going Six Months Without A Major Release Of WordPress?

@Ryan – Gotta agree with you. It is stressful, and I always run a db backup to be safe.

WPWeekly Episode 55 – WordCamp Toronto/Columbus Recap

I went to WordCamp Mid-Atlantic, so I really enjoyed hearing how the other 2 WordCamps went. You all did a great job describing your experiences.
Brad Williams’ Advanced Thesis session was excellent. He mentioned in the podcast that he only went to the cacheing session, and so didn’t know how the other presentations went.
My wife enjoyed and got a lot from “Being a Balanced Blogger” from Jared Goralnick.
And I really liked the “Photoblogging” with Marc Benton and “WordPress SEO” with Sri Nagubandi and John Shehata.
Closing out the day, Mark Jaquith’s “State of the Word” gave us some things to look forward to in WP 2.8 – especially (hopefully) an improved Media uploader experience. A segment of WP development that he’s taking on personally. Great news IMO!

While this was my first WordCamp, I do agree with you that there should be more “WordPress the Software” type of sessions. Using it, working with it, etc.

Thanks for a great podcast! Again!

WPWeekly Episode 51 – TalkPress And More

I found it interesting that Matt put out a call to female coders/hackers to get more involved in WordCamps.

Comparisons Between Most Popular Theme Frameworks

Great comparison article.
Good timing as I’m “this close” to plunk down $87 for Thesis. Maybe I’ll look at Thematic again.
Wish you could’ve included a few more themes in the chart, but we can make our own charts based on your criteria.
Thanks Dan. I did look at Parallel, but it’s not for me.
Also discovered the hardest word in the world to spell, PARALLEL. After LOUISIANA and MEDITERRANEAN. :)
