Displaying 1 To 30 Of 44 Comments Secrets Revealed: WLTC and WPTavern Great to finally know Matt, you know…enquiring minds and all that;) Congrats to you Jeff for being able to once again do what you do! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On May 21, 2013 @ 6:07 AM WordPress News Sites And The Bermuda Triangle @Mike Schinkel – I can’t tell you how happy I am that Jeff linked to your site and that you’re posting there. I’ve made it mandatory reading for our junior devs to start reading…no pressure:) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On January 23, 2013 @ 6:23 PM @Kevinjohn Gallagher – Well said, and I agree. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On January 22, 2013 @ 10:01 AM Hi Jeff, Wow, serendipity seems to be at play. I recently attended the New Media Expo in Vegas and over dinner, we had a lengthy discussion on this very topic, you included. As a long time WP community member, I’ve experienced the highs and lows of both wptavern and wpcandy, and now wprealm and wpdaily seem to be taking “pole position” in the WP News arena. It’s the “ebb and flow”, but I have to agree with your own admission…not being able to find that balance of “purity of publishing” and being able to generate a valid revenue stream from what you’re providing the community. I struggled with this myself with http://wpmodder.com You should have never sold yourself short, but I get it. I understand. It took me years to figure out that I could both benefit the community with my WP content AND generate affiliate revenue in an HONEST way with my various tutorial sites. It should be proof positive for you that you’re receiving these comments from people who have been following wptavern for so long. WP Tavern matters. YOU MATTER. To the community. The WP community is always evolving, but it’s getting to the point where you have people like me, yourself, and the other commentators who have been here for a long time and have no intention of leaving. Many of us have figured out how to make a living from the software we all use and love, and I think it’s high time you figured that out too. You are a valuable asset to the community and someone we all have relied on in the past (and hope to rely on in the future) for keeping us up-to-date on the latest and greatest, but also with an opinion thrown in for good measure. My only advice is to keep publishing, but only do so if it’s your passion. It shows. The financial part will come. I promise. It’s all about “mindset” http://adamwwarner.com/business-blog/marketing-to-yourself-changing-your-mindset I wish you the best Jeff, and I’ll be in touch:) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On January 19, 2013 @ 11:27 PM WP Pro Business Giving Away $9,000 Worth Of WP Stuff @Miroslav Glavic – Hi Miroslav, you certainly could do that, and we do the same for various lists we subscribe to. However, even if you don’t win, you might want to stay signed up for some “possible” additional discounts being sent out to those people who entered but didn’t win. Also, please know that our intentions are pure and we do not spam, nor partner with people who spam. I’ve been part of the WordPress community since 2004 and would not dare risk my reputation on blasting out emails that have nothing to do with WordPress and growing your online business. The choice is yours of course, and thanks for entering! :) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On February 21, 2012 @ 8:38 AM HI Jeff, Thanks for writing about our giveaway, we really appreciate you sharing this with the community! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On February 21, 2012 @ 8:34 AM Do You Want To See Plugin Specific Dashboard Widgets Disappear? @Piet – agreed Piet…CHOICE is the key… » Posted By Adam W. Warner On January 31, 2012 @ 8:23 AM Not One But Two WordPress Tats You can add me to that WordPress tattoo list;) I waited 17 years to get my second tattoo because I wanted to make sure that it included only the elements that truly mean something to me. The logo is included in a half sleeve design which is still unfinished, but WP will be prominent! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On March 2, 2011 @ 9:11 AM Narrowly Escaping WordPress 3.0.6 @Ipstenu – I agree. Imagine all the new WP users that wouldn’t install a spam protection plugin FIRST THING if one were not bundled. I’m also agreed that the sample plugin must remain in order to promote future plugin developers. On the flipside I haven’t read any articles on why these shouldn’t be included. Going to have a look now… » Posted By Adam W. Warner On February 10, 2011 @ 9:57 AM 5 Tips To Create A Great Site About WordPress In the early days of WP Modder I tried to report it all, every day I was learning something new in the WP world and I wanted to share immediately. It soon became a time suck and I found myself not being able to move forward with developing sites (which was my goal with WordPress). I learned after some trial and error that my niche in the WP community is to provide help and tutorials for specific types of users, people newer to WP and web development in general. It’s my passion and I enjoy helping others as I’ve been helped through the years. Whether or not a site about WordPress is great is subjective and I think there’s a lot of room for individual niches. I enjoy the Tavern posts and news and I hope you continue to refine and adapt your passion:) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On September 29, 2010 @ 2:13 PM Where Are The Settings For That Plugin? It’s surely something that bugs me too. I’m glad you brought it up and hopefully it’ll gain some attention. Another thing regarding plugins that bothers me is the fact that there is no quick link to plugins page in the “Right Now” box on the Dashboard. There’s a quick link for everything else…posts, pages, cats, themes, widgets, etc. How ’bout adding a quick link that says something like: » Posted By Adam W. Warner On September 15, 2010 @ 9:03 AM A Few Website Pet Peeves I Have I commend you for gaining such a following (and presumably traffic) without the use of sharing buttons. It’s a testament to your original content writing and WordPress reporting. However, I am willing to bet that if you ran an experiment and added just the two or three that Otto mentioned above, you would see a sharp increase in visitorship. It would be an interesting test anyway… » Posted By Adam W. Warner On August 18, 2010 @ 8:30 AM The Future Of bbPress Lies Within WordPress @John James Jacoby, No I hadn’t thought of that, thanks for the reminder on Extended Profiles! I’ll do some experimenting and see what I can come up with! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On July 29, 2010 @ 8:40 AM The most tantalizing part of Matt’s statements above for me would definitely be …and profile features, in particular, are useful to the future of discussion forums Any mention of profile features makes me giddy. I’ve just come off a large project and the one thing lacking on my install is extended profile fields. Over the past year, I’ve investigated and tested several different plugins that attempt to let the admin create and manage custom profile fields, and then tried to integrate those into the registration form. None of them panned out. I am hoping that if the bbPress plugin sees the light of day, then it will include (or lead to) an easier path to creating custom profile fields and integrating them with the registration process. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On July 26, 2010 @ 8:29 AM FeedBurner Relevancy And RSS Subscriber Numbers I started using Feedburner because of the email subscription option. I still have it activated on some sites, but I’ve been moving my email subscriptions to the use of a Gravity Form which integrates with my MailChimp account where I have RSS subscriptions activated. Not as simple of a solution to setup, but allows me better analysis of subscriber activity and much nicer looking emails to them. Down side is no Adsense in these emails currently. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On July 1, 2010 @ 9:09 AM What To Do Or Consider After You Enable Multisite In WordPress @ James… WP Tavern…making WordPress world connections in more ways than one. Ha! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On June 25, 2010 @ 4:13 PM @James, Thanks, and what are the odds that I would visit your site and realize we’re in the SAME town! It’s getting close to happy hour and the tavern is giving me the itch. Might be time to head down to the tiki at Marina Jack’s or slide into Shakespeare’s. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On June 25, 2010 @ 2:13 PM Great write up James, This is a huge topic and you’ve done a solid job of summing it up. Congrats. One quick correction you may want to make is in the statement: The mu-plugins category is THE place where we get to globally define what’s happening for our sites. As you point out below this sentence, the mu-plugins is a directory under /wp-content/ and not a category. Just trying to avoid any confusion for those new to Multi-Site… » Posted By Adam W. Warner On June 25, 2010 @ 9:13 AM When I first heard about this plugin I remember thinking…”wow, that looks useful, I’ll have to give it a shot”…fast forward a year later and I’m having the same thought! Thanks for the reminder Jeff and thanks Scribu for what looks like a great plugin! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On June 23, 2010 @ 8:21 AM WordPress.Net.IN Taken Offline This has been on my mind for some time as I own the http://wordpressmodder.org domain. This trademark conversation piqued a year or so ago and it was then I started thinking about making a plan to move the site to a different domain. My intentions for the domain were purely innocent as I wanted to give back to the community in the way that I was helped in learning WP. Well, life got in the way and the domain still holds the same content, but it doesn’t updated. This post gives me a renewed urgency to move the content to another domain and also to start posting updated tutorials. The domain will be changed soon Matt, I promise:) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On June 8, 2010 @ 8:35 AM Forum VIP Membership Now Available Great to see you monetizing your efforts a bit more Jeff, you certainly deserve it! One thing occurred to me with your VIP forum product offering…maybe you should consider offering an affiliate path to these as well. I work with many clients that eventually like to take their sites into their own hands a bit more, and although I’ll be promoting the tavern forums regardless, it would be nice to get a kickback if possible. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On May 29, 2010 @ 9:42 AM Review Of The Limit Login Attempts Plugin Nice review Jeff. As I have been working mostly in MU for the last couple years, and with the merge on the horizon, I wonder if there’s any interest in this developer making this MU compatible? What I mean is…I have an MU installation that has five sites (blogs) and I will be adding more regularly. It would be nice not to have to activate and configure this plugin on each individual site every time I create a new one. Just a thought, hopefully the dev will read this and report any interest (or lack of). Great review! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On May 5, 2010 @ 8:29 AM WordCast Interviews Automattics Own Maya Desai Yeah, I checked and I don’t see any warnings either. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On April 29, 2010 @ 12:49 PM Uh oh…that’s not cool, feel free to remove and I’ll look into it. » Posted By Adam W. Warner On April 29, 2010 @ 8:55 AM WordPress Dev Chat For 4-22-10 Great to know, I love these summaries. I’m really getting excited! » Posted By Adam W. Warner On April 23, 2010 @ 8:34 AM Congrats to Jeremy and Kevin:) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On March 5, 2010 @ 2:32 PM Very, very cool! Nice work iThemes crew, you’re building quite a great business with great tools! I’ve recently finished a very large implementation of a WPMU network of sites for a client and have been thinking about the easiest way to “hand off” the regular backup process to them. The developer version of this plugin is exactly what I need to streamline my work, but also to provide my clients with a fool proof backup system they can manage on their own! Consider my hat thrown in for the giveaway:) » Posted By Adam W. Warner On March 5, 2010 @ 8:43 AM Plugin Review: Technical Support This seems useful for certain people, but users only have access if they’re signed up on your blog? I would love to see this extended to offer a complete support ticket system. A frontend widget and a way for the admin to respond from the Dashboard or email, as well as for users to track their support tickets. I know, I know…I’m suggesting a lot:) To date, I’ve been using osTicket for my support ticket system. I would love to see a WP integrated support ticket system. EDIT: Looks like there are few, this seems to be the most recently updated: » Posted By Adam W.
