Icon14 WordPress As A CMS Questions

This week, I'll be interviewing two guys who know there stuff when it comes to using WordPress as a full blown content management system. If you have any questions regarding this topic or anything else that we'll talk about http://www.wptavern.com/first-wordpr...istening-party submit your questions in this thread and I'll ask them over the air on Friday.

WordPress has appalling support for user management. What is the best way to handle complicated user management setups in WordPress?

Wow, I'm glad Jeff will be doing this interview! I just discovered Pods because of his post and it looks very promising.

I'm building several business directories using WordPress. I need to enter the typical business data, company name, address, city, state, zip, phone, website, description, etc.

Can you explain why Pods would be a better choice over simply using the custom fields in WordPress to build a business directory?

Could you also expand a bit on Pods relational capabilities and how that could help projects similar to mine?

Does Pods work with the built-in WordPress search? If not, does it have a search capability?

For large setups involving multiple pieces of software used in conjunction with WordPress, would you recommend integrating the functionality of each one of them into a single system, so that the same theming system could be used across the board? Or is the hit in performance too much?

And if there is a hit in performance, what systems are available which are able to cache the pages to avoid this problem (ie: WP has supercache, but I don't know if other systems like forums have such facilities available for them).

Does pods allow for entity relationships across tables. For example, if you wanted to setup a trouble ticket system, and tie it to the user base, like using a active directory or ldap, would it allow enough features to do it, or would it be best just to use php, and then tie it to wordpress?

Stephen Cronin mentioned workflow in the article comments. I`d also like to address this, though there is a workflow plugin in the making by Copress: http://www.copress.org/2009/06/16/ed...-stage-1-beta/

I`m thinking about the option to use a second WP install running Prologue2, accessible from the Dashboard, as a internal workflow communication tool for editors, and as a extranet, when using WP as a CMS. I would appreciate comments on this approach.

Great questions guys. I'll line them up in the show notes and ask away.

I have started working with pods, and have determined that entity relationships should be fine. My congratulations to the writers, nice piece of software, by the way. The wiki discussess that it is possible to use wordpress roles, but does not have any examples, if you have time you might ask to discuss how that works.

I will not be able to listen live tonight, my daugher has several things going on. Will anyone be recording it? Thanks in advance.

The show is always recorded :) so you'll be able to listen to the archived version after the recording is over with.

If you ever revisit this topic the Pages vs. posts discussion in the other thread should be investigated. A nice topic for a show would be interviewing authors of "CMS" themes - GPL and not - about "cms theming" for WordPress.
