    Default WordPress MU 2.7.1 released

WPMU 2.7.1 was just released yesterday:

Interesting that they removed the admin bar built by Viper007Bond. Anyone know that back story on why they did that?

The sitewide plugin activation feature is a godsend for administrators overseeing large WPMU networks.

I've upgrade a couple sites already and so far so good!

I think there were too many bug issues with the admin bar, and generating proper URLs. there were a LOT of tickets about it.

Some of which went unanswered by people who submitted them...

The sitewide Plugin activation sounds cool. Do you know why they removed the admin bar? I never had much use for it, but it seems like a strange decision.

EDIT: Thanks andrea_r for answering my question before I was even able to post it :)

I'm not a fan of the current way to navigate to other blogs now. They've basically added an extra click to list out all of your blogs to select where to go. I hope they come up with a better way to handle this by WPMU 2.8

Ron whipped up a plugin to handle this the way we thought it should be done:

That's cool. Since the admin bar is being moved to a plugin anyway, I wonder if that plugin can be worked into it.

Worked in to the admin bar plugin?

The one Ron did goes into the standard admin header. the admin bar was on top of that, which we thought was overkill. :) at least for the backend.

Ahh ok. I missed that. I thought it was actually added to the admin bar.

I asked Donncha about the admin bar when I saw him tweet about it and this is what he said.

@wptavern it's just better that it's a plugin. MU 2.7.1 has a much better plugin system now making it simple to install

    So there you go :)
