Default "You have used your space quota" - can I change this error?

OK so one of our bloggers has just been told that he has used all his allocated space (which is wrong, but that's a different issues...he's actually used only 5%!...if anyone knows of a common solution to this, please do let me know! cheers)

The error that he receives is:

"You have used your space quota. Please delete files to continue"

So, being a law abiding citizen this particular user went ahead and deleted every single one of his photos. Then, naturally, emailed me to ask where all his photos had gone from his blog

He told me he had deleted them all to free up space, I naturally asked him WHY?!

But now I know why, because he was advised to by a wordpress error!

How can I change this error to stop people in the future deleting everything?!

    Cheers :)

It's in the upload settings. "Limit total size of files uploaded to XXX MB".

I think he wants to change the error from
"You have used your space quota. Please delete files to continue" to something else (maybe "You have used up your filespace quota. Please contact an administrator for assistance.")

.. though it does beg the question, what was he thinking? I mean, if you delete files, then common sense says they are, you know, deleted....

The only thing I can think of to change that message is to use localization (a po file) to "translate" the string into a different message. that's a workaround.

Though if the message is that confusing, it may be a job for the Useability Team (tm). (Imagine fanfare here)

I think that error message could be rewritten to be more informational. For example:

You have used your space quota. Please delete some files from the following location in order to free up space or contact a site administrator.

Yeh that's what I'm hoping to achieve :)

I've no idea what was going through his mind! The only thing I could think of that's worse than deleting all your images, is deleting all your posts!

The message itself shouldn't be too confusing, but I guess we look at it through WP eyes. To him, he just saw "delete files to continue" so he just obliged!

We managed to restore them all fortunately, but it seems worth tweaking the message so it's not at all misleading for novice users

Is there a consensus here that the error message is too vague and needs to be changed to perhaps be more informational? Does this require a ticket or something?

I can't think of anything better to use.

And creating a translation file seems like the best way to change it.

Or, you can filter "gettext" and not create and load an entire translation file for one string.

Good idea. That's a pretty long string so unlikely to be used elsewhere anyway.

I didn't actually realise you could filter text like that.
