    Default Problem with file premission

    Hi,

    I just installed wordpress on a new server and I've got some trouble with the file premissions. I can't upload images and I can't edit the stylesheet and files in the wp-admin. Error I get when uploading an image in a post:

    Code:
    Unable to create directory /home/xnfpycqr/domains/ereader-reviews.nl/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
    So I changed file premissions on my FTP (I use Filezilla) and it still doesnt work. I'm not 100% sure if I used correct one (755, its the default) so I just changed it to 777 which didnt work either.

    Anyone got any idea how I can solve this? What file premissions do I need to set, and where? I've checked the documentation of wordpress but that was no help either.

    If the folder at /home/xnfpycqr/domains/ereader-reviews.nl/public_html/wp-content/uploads is present, and the permissions are set to 777 then AFAIK it should definitely work. If not, then I'm guessing your problem is not related to file permissions but something else.

    Well the folder wasnt there, so I created the folder upload, 2010, and 12. Then it simply said;

    The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/xnfpycqr/domains/ereader-reviews.nl/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/12.
    So just to be sure I set the premission to 777, but that didnt help either.

    who is the webhost?

    Some hosts are very finicky about file permissions and even though you set things to 777, their settings overwride it (whats the point then?) - my bet is the webhost admin needs to upgrade your user account

    I've found that using an FTP client to change permissions doesn't work most of the time as you'll discover that the changes you make get reverted. I've had better luck using the file manager built into CPanel to change file permissions and getting them to stick. Outside of that, I've had to contact the host a few times to get them to switch the permissions for me.
