    Default Misbehaving Wordpress Site

One of my Wordpress sites appears to be misbehaving. If I view the site with Safari I get "There’s nothing here. If there were posts in the database, you’d be seeing them. Try creating a post, and see if that solves your problem" however when I view it with Firefox the site is fine. Also, when I try to access the Dashboard I am able to login and view it however it reports 0 comments on the Recent Comments widget but 731 in the Right Now widget. I am also unable to edit any of my posts.

Overall the site is just "acting" strange. It is running 2.9.2 and all plugins are up-to-date and have been.

    The site is: http://www.alexrodrigueznotebook.com/

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Alex Rodriguez

Firefox probably has cached version, I am unable to get anything other than no posts in any browser.

As for suggestions (in no particular order):
    • check site for signs of malware
    • reinstall wordpress
    • try disabling all of plugins
    • try different theme

Nothing obvious about cause of your issues so far.

Oh wow, yeah I get the "There's nothing here" message as well. I'm using a fork of Firefox called Iceweasel.

Do you know where to find the error logs on your server? I'd start there.

Thanks I tried the new theme, disable all plugins and a reinstall. I also looked for any malware, to the best I can and did not find anything. While not impenetrable (not sure anything is) I do have it fairly locked down.

    Still hoping I can recover.

    Thanks...

The site looks fine in both FireFox 3.6 for me and Internet Explorer 8. Although completely not related to the original question, that audio playing automatically on any of the pages I clicked on is like breaking one of the cardinal rules of the browsing world.

I was clicking around on the dates within the calendar widget on the front page and noticed they are all creating 404 errors.

It's as if your content has disappeared. Have you recently changed permalink settings?

    Using FireFox on MacOSX

I agree with Jeffro. This is most likely a permalink issue. First thing that I would try is to return the permalinks to their default setting and then try to navigate your site. If your site starts working again, I would suggest that you look in the folder that WordPress is installed for a file named .htaccess. If it's not present, you will need to create a one from scratch.

You can find the appropriate code in the first light brown box on this page. You can create a new document in a text editor named .htaccess, paste the code inside and upload to your server. At this time, try changing your permalink settings back to how you originally had them and test your site. Hopefully this will help you out.

    Best wishes,
    -Mike

Strange, I am not able to see it that far.

Not initially, I have since trying to see if it corrected the problem. With no luck.

That seems to be the consensus as to what the problem is. I have gone through them and it still remains broken. The .htaccess is present and editable by Wordpress.

This is not something I have changed in years, ever since the site was first setup. I don't believe any of the plugins I have would effect my permalinks. Either way I have disabled them all and changed the settings again but still no luck.
