error installing new theme

Hi

This is a WordPress MU with BuddyPress install.
I didn't build the site, so not too familiar with it.

1. The site owner sees the 'Add themes' under Appearance, but I don't even though I'm an admin.

2. when he tries to add a new theme, an error message:
Warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The first argument should be either a string or an integer in /home/housings/public_html/wp-includes/theme.php on line 459

I know it's a long shot but maybe someone has a suggestion?

In MU, only the Site Admin can install new themes and plugins. That's because they are all shared.

For #2, not sure what's up, hadn't seen that one before.

I would try uploading a clean copy of themes.php to see if that handles the problem. I'm guessing that themes.php would come from the latest version of WordPress MU.

Also, have you tried creating a new Admin account, logging in to that and seeing if the Themes menu is also hidden from that account?

Jeffro: You have to be a Site Admin in MU to see the Add themes menu. It's different than just being an administrator on a blog.

Yep, entirely possible. If you can't see the Site Admin menu, you're not a site admin.
