How do you like your RSS Icons?

I'm redesigning my site, and have just got to the point where I design my RSS button, and I wondered what people prefer to see/recognise best?

The theme is a grey and white with red highlights, so should I go for a red button, or the standard orange one?

Always go with standards. Making the icon have a color matching the rest of your site just makes it visually hard to distinguish.

Ditto.

RSS = orange icon. Standards exist for good reason, and the RSS icon is a case-in-point.

The only potential exception I might consider would be a roll-over; but even then, the eye is trained to look for an orange icon when looking for RSS feed links, so I still don't think it would be a great idea to change the color even in that case.

@Otto and @Chip - Agreed. My question arose because while looking for a download of the icon, I came across so many variants, in so many different colours, that I wondered if I should use a red icon.

and yes, someone edited it to put a toilet in instead. Funny the first time...

LOL there is actually an RSS icon of a guy sitting on the toilet :)

At any rate, I aim to use the default orange RSS icon as that has become the standard and what people are trained to look for. However, I am always impressed when I see site designs which turn the RSS icon into an awesome design element that fits in well with the rest of the site.
