Icon14 Real Time Chat Outside Of Talkshoe

So one service I've seen being used on quite a few podcasting sites is Mibbit which makes it easy to use IRC through their web client. I've since implemented a crude chatbox to be used on the WordPress Weekly information page here.

    http://www.wptavern.com/wordpress-weekly

So far in initial testing, it works very well. I will need to add a color scheme to it, add David as a co moderator of the channel, add a talkshoe widget to the sidebar which will tap into the live stream as we record so when combined, it completely bypasses the need to use any of the two Talkshoe clients which I think quite a few people will be appreciative of.

Let me know what you think.

What would you do about people still tuning in from the talkshoe web client? They could post in the chatbox on talkshoe and not here (as in on wptavern)

BTW, you mentioned that it was some sort of irc. Would that chat work in any other irc client?

Yes, it's irc.mibbit.com the channel is #wpweekly so you can use any IRC client to connect. As for the chat on Talkshoe, I would just disable chatting all together so that I wouldn't have to worry about it.

It's not exactly real time, it gets stuck quite often and overall, using Mibbit just seems like a smoother experience.
