Well, I actually think Conorps suggestion is the best in that, WordPress security topics can fit right in with the General WordPress section.
If I really wanted to cut everything down, I would remove all the forums and turn 90% of them into subforums but I'm not going to do that. I use the latest post block at the bottom of the site to tell me new topics as well as who created them. Also, when a thread has a new post, it shows up at the top of the list again.
I can actually look into adding new links to the navbar or inside of the QuickLinks drop down for those two post views you want.
By the way, not to get off topic but since it was mentioned thought I'd say please check out the Quick Links at the top of the forum. The first link is View Threads With No Replies which should show you a list of forum threads with 0 replies.
Heh, there's a "Quick Links" pull down up there! That "Today's Posts" one looks quite useful, I might need to use that. It's not as good as an "unread posts" button, but it's better than the "New posts" button which means I end up missing some good posts on occasion.
Speaking of the Latest Posts block, is there any way to have it link not to the last post in the thread, but the first unread post? I use that section the most, by far, but it is annoying to have to scroll up the page (or back multiple pages) to find the first unread post. Man, that would be awesome...

I have it bookmarked. :)I usually use the "New Posts" link between Calender and Search. It works pretty well.

I wonder what the results would have been if you made a poll now ;)
