Damn Spammers

Some of you may have noticed an influx of spammers today, I know Conorp did :P I guess the Tavern forum is getting too damn popular :)

At any rate, I have changed the Captcha system to see if that works. I've also banned a few IP addresses and have also removed the offending users/posts. If you ever come across a post which you believe to be spam, please report it as such using the REPORT link found on everyones postl.

Starting today, my policy is to ban the IP address of spam accounts and then delete their username off the forum. This means they can't signup again with a different username and this makes the membership statistics more accurate.

That tends to be my standard approach on managing spammers, too.

Of course spammers can usually just access the site from another IP address, but this should at least help.

True enough Will. I usually ban a range of addresses, but a lot depends on what WHOIS details I can get for the IP range.
