That's an interesting concept. I'm not sure I'd ever find it useful (just like I don't use WordPress.com) but I'm sure it'd be useful to someone who wasn't able to install bbPress.

I believe the problem will be though that if i was going to go with the free forum option i would get a free phpbb forum which has a wide range of features than bbpress.
    that's just my opinion.

I assumed this project had died. Interesting to see it is still alive.

I remember TalkPress.com had a phpBB forum on it for a while which was mildly amusing. I assumed it had been hacked for a start, but by the looks of the link posted above they did this as a joke.

Will this mean that you can add a forum to your WordPress.com blog? Or are the two services 100% separate?

Hmmm, I noted the easier integration for WPMU, and the part about the channels.

What that looks like it means, is each blog on a WPMU system could eventually have their own forum using bbpress. Cool.

Perhaps you would install both bbPress and WordPress Mu and then use WordPress Mu to setup the hosted forum service? I don't know how that would work, but if they're already intending to do that with TalkPress then it would make sense to do it that way rather than creating another piece of software for the task.

Hosted forums don't seem like a big business area to me. A single person can keep a blog in good shape, but it requires a lot more effort to keep a forum going so most people who have the time, skill and will to run a forum are likely to just host it themselves. I assume there main income stream from this service will be from the WordPress.com VIP members who will be stoked to have a forum service to complement their existing site.

That's the direction I think they're heading in, yes.

bbPress alreayd works with WPMU fpor one forum, and BuddyPress has managed to use multiple threads in bbpress to act like a bunch of smaller forums.

I kind of see this as a "late to the party" thing. I mean, good for the .coms being able to have it now - anyone running a WPMU site has already had the ability to give their members forums via a handful of other plugins.

I'm just happy to hear some news on bbPress. I've been patiently waiting for 1.0 to be officially released. Since TalkPress is now on (I also thought it had died), I imagine we might see more people developing for bbPress. Maybe speed some things up.

Basically, I don't really care about TalkPress unless it'll help bbPress development.
