Also have to add that I do feel you get what you pay for.
If it's cheap, it's cheap for a reason - bandwidth limitations (not the amount, the speed), CPU limits and so on help the host cram a lot of sites into a small host. I gave up a long time ago on cheap shared hosting.
True, except that my website is mostly a hobby site, and is likely only ever going to be a hobby site. So, cheap hosting is ideal (especially when what I have now is an improvement over what I had before).
Of course, if that premise ever changes, I'll have to look into something more robust.

Why would you get one company for domain and another for webhosting?
I have 22 domains (all free) with the paid hosting. Most webhosting companies include a free domain.
For those 22 domains: $10.69 x 22 = $235.18
$10.69 = GODaddy's .com price right now.
Anyways, I have been with HostMDS. Their .com domains are 9.95 so technically cheaper than GODaddy's.
Most of those 22 domains, they have their .ca and their .com (whatever.ca and whatever.com) and I get the .ca for the free domain and pay for the .com (.ca's are slightly more expensive than .coms.
I went with HostMDS because they are in my area instead of somewhere in California. Nothing against California but I like supporting my country's economy.
Using the same company for your domain and hosting is a really bad idea. They can then lock you down into their hosting service by refusing to give up the domain.
Chip, I know you said you've already gone with WPWebHost, and I have no experience with them, but let me add a vote for Bluehost.
As Devin pointed out, they have great 24/7 support. Their low tier tech support is better and more knowledgeable than what I've seen at every other hosting company I have experience with (tons).
There is rare downtime, but it's extremely rare and generally due to an upgrade, etc. This is the same with every shared host.
If I had any complaints or criticisms, they would be that 1) there's no catch-all email capability and 2) no wildcard DNS (so no WPMU). Other than that, it's very close to flawless, and you can't beat the price for what you get.
Of all my shared hosting accounts (I have many), it's my absolute favorite, and I've pushed many of my clients to them.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

I wrote a brief blog post called "Keep Domain Registration & Hosting Separate" a while back and a couple comments have been made by people having problems with having hosting and domains under the same roof![]()
