Hey Everyone, As I'm sure you all know, WLTC is sponsoring another plugin competition, descriptively titled the WordPress Plugin Competition 2009. I want to enter this year but am plumb out of ideas. So anyone have any great ideas for a plugin? Go crazy, be as creative as you want. What have you always wished WordPress had? Hopefully others can use this thread for inspiration as well! |

Sounds like a good idea that Jeff! ![]() I too have an idea (Even though I can't code!), but I know someone who can, so I better go speak to him and see if we can get this idea going! - It would actually kick-start my WPKid.com site, and maybe some backlinks at the same time! LOL Take care people, and if I come up with any other ideas, I'll let you know! Thanks Mark (Coming Very Soon, Just Working On The Design!) |

I have a couple of ideas you are welcome to. The first is to make WordPress export to an open standard. For example, BlogML. The other is to take a good look at workflows. I have a post in the making on this but I think WordPress's draft and reviewing processes need a lot of work to be useful for serious CMS use. |

I'd like a plugin that helps manage post *ideas* in an easier format than drafts. Over time, I accumulate one-line synopsises for stories I'd eventually like to write. However, if I were to use Post Drafts for these (which I currently do), it can lead to a ton of clutter -- and clutter often prevents productivity. Something that allows one to maintain a list of ideas, then check them off when complete, would be nice. Another idea is a plugin that does for Post Custom Fields what CForms ][ does for drop-in forms -- that is, provides the user with the means to develop powerful/flexible ways to manage input of custom fields without the clunky structure of key + value. Permitting radio buttons, multiple selects, etc. Of course, some of these ideas may already be implemented -- I just haven't been able to find them. :) |

A while back I posted some thoughts on a deployment strategy plugin idea that I would love to see made - would also be willing to share thoughts and help with testing if someone does want to run with it. The jist of it was to provide a way to improve the corporate viability of Wordpress when compared to high-end CMS like Red Dot, Interwoven, etc that out-of-box support multiple environments (dev, staging, production) It's a rather ambitious concept to find a way to identify the changes between two different Wordpress environments - both file and database. Are changes in the comments tables b/c someone added new comments since the last copy of prod was brought back to staging or b/c a plugin that has been tested and themed in staging has modified the tables and so all should be updated. |
