I won't say it all again - I'll just copy and paste the comment I left on the Quick Online Tips blog post (currently in moderation):

That's a pretty big assumption you're making there. You can't see your current up to date PageRank, only your toolbar PR, which Google exports once every 3 months or so. As it happens Google just recently updated Toolbar PR, so it's no surprise you're seeing changes - however these changes are based on many different factors over the last 3 months or so. The new feature of All in One is only about a week old. It's very unlikely that it would have had much impact in that small amount of time.

That said, it would seem that people should be careful about this issue if they run WordPress in a subfolder. It may have impact on such sites, so if there's any doubt, don't use that feature of the plugin. However, it's a real stretch to blame All in One for your PageRank drop (not that PageRank matters much any more).

Lol. Well that about sums up why this can't be blamed on the plugin.

Yeah, looks like overall, AIO was not to blame this time around. I didn't mean to, but my way of handling the situation sort of forced Michael to make a comment regarding the situation and depending on how you looked at it, I sort of took advantage of the fact that the plugin author was a member of this forum and thus, took advantage of the opportunity. I gave it some thought and I don't think I should have done that :P So, I'll try to handle things better the next go around without putting you theme/plugin authors on the spot.

I think the author of the original article is making a legitimate point. Wordpress upgrades presents enormous challenges because of the number of variables and the number of companies involved. What's more, as the author points out, a new variable may be introduced, with a simple check mark, unbeknown to the user. It's totally crazy. I wish that there was a good commercial piece of blog software out there (ExpressionEngine comes the closest), that I could buy all in one piece and save me the stress of using software that comes in bits and pieces from hundreds of different sources, but unfortunately, no one in the commercial world has figured out how to make a business out of selling blogging software at low cost. The short of it is, that the author raises a decent concern, and users should be made better aware of these issues. I appreciated the post, since I learned something from it - i.e., multi-functional plug-ins, can add additional functionality between releases, and thereby disturb the known flow of an application. Something very reasonable to highlight. Rich

Ok I admit, if you present it that way, then sure, he has a point. With regards to purchasing something that has most of what you need without bits and pieces, have you looked into SquareSpace.com recently? Maybe a hosted solution sounds like your best bet.

    Hi,

Yes, hosted solutions (cloud computing) are quite nice for many users. Maybe it is the future of computing. For me, there are more negatives than positives at this time, but something to watch for.

The way around that problem is simply not to use plugins. If you don't use plugins you are unlikely to have problems with upgrades.
