Default Free WordPress plugin development :)

This is a cross post from Google+

    Dear WordPress peeps:

I'm meeting with a bunch of IT students in about 20 hours time. They're looking for short and simple projects to work on, so I was thinking of suggesting various WordPress plugins they could build. They have very little experience and probably none whatsoever with WordPress or PHP, so the plugins would need to be very simple.

    Sooo ...

    (1) Any simple plugins you guys want made?

    (2) Any suggestions for simple plugins that others might find useful?

    (3) Anyone keen to volunteer to help mentor them? I can help them myself, but it might be good for their own development to work with people internationally too - the main point in them doing this project is apparently to teach them how to deal with clients.

    Thanks :)

PS: They're working in groups of three. So there would be three people working on one plugin project.

Good. I have two teams of them now.

One is working on projects relating to the WordPress.com API, haven't worked out exactly what they're gonna do with it, but so far have a website setup which allows you to submit form data, which is then transferred over to WordPress.com automagically. If anyone has any suggestions for what this could be used for, please let me know. At the moment I'm thinking of getting them to collate lists of people's 10 most recent tweets and posting them automagically on someone's WordPress.com site.

The other team are working on a non WP related project involving collating weather data. Here's a crude mockup of the home page ... http://demo.pixopoint.com/static/needmorerams/
