What's in your heart contradicts the explicit (and quite clear) wording of the GPL, which states that one may charge money for GPL-licensed code.
Hey, I'm not saying the GPL is perfect ;)

I really don't like the attitude - and it is all-too prevalent in the WordPress community - that only those who have contributed code have a right to express their opinions or to have a voice. The sarcasm implied in this comment belies this attitude.
I really don't like the way people make comments without doing there research. If anything, perhaps that too is prevalent in the WordPress community.

These types of comments can be way more damaging and have way worse effects in the real world for people like you and I. My comments merely put somebody on the spot - I think putting somebody right is the lessor of the two evils. In fact it could be argued that a little tongue in cheek is good thing because heck I'm encouraging people to read more and investigate. And heck I really like Andreas :P

I just don't want to encourage people to write whatever they feel like regardless of whether its factual.

This is the real issue that I see. I've seen so much time wasted on the GPL topic. I shudder to think of the man hours that Ma.tt has wasted justifying GPL stuff to people that abuse him online. Wow. It makes my hair fall out!!! Its mental!!

Trust me I know there are many ways to contribute to an Open Source project. As somebody who has committed hundreds if not thousands of hours to WordPress I know that there are many ways to skin a cat - I write constructive criticism where due, I travel from New Zealand to WordCamps around the world to try share a positive message, I help run WordCamps in NZ, I've submitted documentation to codex, I've done interface work with WP testers, and I've even put money into WordPress. And I lobby for WordPress at every opportunity.

However what I won't do is go out there and say something and make it sound like a fact without being 100% certain that it is actually is a fact. Andreas made a statement that was not factually correct and if I'm to be honest that annoyed me in the same why that my comments may have annoyed you.

First, let me say: I've never had need for an e-commerce solution, but if I did, WP e-Commerce looks like a great plugin!
    Good man ;)

I think I'm going to contact you regarding some wording on our site :D

Well I based my statements on the info that was available and non said the premium upgrades were GPL, still don't. If I can't figure it out then someone new to this whole mess surely can't. Also customers will still go with what it says on the homepage since they usually don't know what GPL is in the first place.
