I could never imagine this sort of crap happening in the WP world.
On a side note, developments by the ex-SMF developers for another product are well underway and shaping up very well from what I can see (I was given access to the development board).
Regardless of who was right or wrong or whatever, that is so not the way to handle it. Also, if she's aware that many people have a problem with her, then the right thing to do - if the project itself truly does mean that much - is to step down.
I saw the same thing. If that many developers left and so many around the project consider her to be the main problem, she needs to look in the mirror and think really hard on whether she is part of the problem or part of the solution.
God forbid the contributor community ever launches an offensive like that against Matt. Although I think with the project license, and the foundation, it's highly unlikely that events would ever reach the level it did with SMF behind closed doors.
