WP.me not WP.com

So WordPress users finally got their URL shortener although it's not from WP.com. Instead, it's WP.me

Interesting that they came out with one and didn't use wp.com for it. They did shave one character off the domain by going with .me instead of .com. I'm guessing Matt has other plans for WP.com or else, it will just sit there as a nice gateway page for WordPress.com. Despite wp.com not being the URL shortener, they must have heard all that demand for one so there it is.

Now to have a WordPress plugin that taps into wp.me and also sends that link out onto Twitter.

Blah, it's only for WordPress.com users. Oh well I guess.

hmm according to a comment, if you use the stats plugin, you can use the shortener on self hosted blogs, or will be able to in the future. Damn, that would make three different stat things I use on WPTavern if I install that plugin.

I use three analytics ... Google, Woopra, and WP-stats ... each gives me a view I prefer and access to the data at different levels. I hope they tie it to the stats plugin versus adding yet another one. Better yet, how do we get them to put it into core?
