    Default WordPress Single-file Automatic Installer

I cant find the discussion where this was mentioned a few weeks ago, But as someone mentioned there, "someone" (well, a Company..) was working on this exact thing, Well, That someone is me, And i'm near releasing it..

    http://dd32.id.au/2009/07/26/announc...tic-installer/

This is mainly a heads-up for some discussion, and a bit of advertising of my own.

(Thats me off to bed, Hopefully the server will stay running, the Vimeo clip will work (unlikely) and that the xvid is of decent quality (Who knows..))

Yes, You're not missing something, I havnt actually posted the script yet, as I have time to give support the next few days, I think it'd be best if i was contactable after releasing it!

There's a ticket in trac for this, you could probably roll it into core with a good base to work with.

Would that technically be something in core though? It seems like an entirely seperate system to me.

Definitely worthy of being posted on WP.org, but I didn't think that would be class as being "in the core".

Here is what I see. The current WordPress installation is cumbersome and since most people end up uploading 800 plus files to install the darn thing, the 5 minute install goes out the window. This would change that. I'm hoping that this method of installing WP could go through the rungs and maybe at some point in time, either added to core as an alternative install method or at least some variation of it.

Meh. Semantics. It could still be in the core repository and managed along with everything else.

A script to build the installer from the existing files would be better, since if you're using the file and http stuff from WP, you'd want to get the latest bugfixes from it and such.

Extend it further - why not just get people to download an install script, upload it to the server, and the *script* can go and get the files? :)

Isn't that what this script of DD32's is going to do?

So I see Ozh did a write up about the plugin. Is it about ready for testing?
