    Default Gravity Forms Public Preview

Since Jeff and Dave let the cat out of the bag with the password protected site for our upcoming plugin release, we have decided to open it up to the public... no password is needed to see the public preview of the Gravity Forms plugin.

If you don't know about it, Gravity Forms is a form creation and lead management plugin that will allow you to create a wide variety of data collection forms. From simple contact us forms, to more complex surveys, bug reporting, issue tracking, and even forms that create blog post drafts to allow user submissions.

    Check it out here:

    Thanks!

Looks very promising. I like contact forms that store the emails in the database, that is one reason why I use SCF2 Contact Form on a majority of my sites.

I will definitely give this plugin a go.

Is this plugin going to be released under the GPL? I feel that the more innovative the software is, the less likely the authors are of releasing it under the GPL, because of the risk of unethical people reselling the software for their own gain. And for people that don't get the GPL, I'm talking about the license, not the price of the software...

We are planning on releasing it as a commercial GPL plugin. While it is going to be easy to use and implement, it is also complex enough that users will certainly want easy access to updates and support especially as a lot of people that will want it are businesses and not personal blogs.

Our plan is to implement a system similar to the Shopp plugin, if anyone is familiar with that GPL commercial plugin.

If someone wants to buy it from a 3rd party, there won't be anything we can do about it but I would think people would want to buy it from the source and not a 3rd party as who better to provide support than the people that wrote it.

Thanks Carl, that was the answer I was hoping to hear.

Great to hear Carl about heading down the Shopp route.

By the way, I hope you listened to the show where I asked David if he had permission to talk about the plugin LOL. But when he did, I said the heck with it and passed out the wordcampchicago stuff. I think in the end, it was good stuff for you :)

Not a problem, we were planning on releasing it to the public anyway... as you can see!

In fact, I couldn't get David to stop talking about it. It was like 4 plugin picks of the week in a row lol.

By the way, have you guys thought about how you're going to do contact form templates? Some sort of format where I can create, save, export, import templates?

I can't promise form templates will make it into v1, we are having to prioritize features so that may be one that comes post launch. It will be some sort of text file format (possibly XML) where you can export and import the setup settings necessary to create a form programmatically. No specs yet as it's a feature not yet implemented but is on the roadmap.
