I KNOW I should look around more before I ask this very basic question - so 'I'm sorry in advance' :-)

When Wordpress updates to it's newest version - 2.8 I think - I take it that those of use that have our blog ON the Wordpress site get any functional benefits (the same benefits) that those whom have there own 'Domain Blog' ie have downloaded and upgraded their site will get?

Or will the restrictions imposed on the 'free hosting' version be more limited - especially in file handling etc.

Off the top of my head, I believe WordPress.com users pretty much get all of the functionality that WordPress.org users get but now that I think about it, you wouldn't need access to the theme upgrader, plugin upgrader, or core upgrader. So those three you won't get. I don't think you'll be more limited with what you can do more so than you already are. If the core of WordPress receives enhancements, WordPress.com users see those enhancements as well unless they deal with outside sources like the upgraders I mentioned before.

Maybe someone else knows better.

wordpress.com is WPMU, so you'll more or less get what WPMU gets. WPMU has upgrade restrictions, etc.

Yep, those internal upgrade you won't have access to. But most of the rest you will.

And you'll probably get it at wp.com before it rolls into WPMU. that's how it's been going lately.
