Merging Blogs: Custom Post Type vs. Custom Taxonomy vs. Category vs. ???
Hey everybody,
I'm working on a site redesign for a client where there are two installs of WordPress on one domain, each stored in subfolders, like this:
http://domainURL.com/blog1
http://domainURL.com/blog2
The client and I want to merge these two blogs into one install of WordPress but maintain the illusion of two distinct blogs, i.e., different stylesheets for both. The domain has been active since 2003, gets over 100K hits a month, and has advertising contracts, so it's critical that all inbound links keep working. Each blog has many, many subscribers, which can be merged or kept separate.
I know I could accomplish this by creating two custom post types, making custom taxonomies, or simply assigning posts from each blog to their own parent categories.
Which do you think is the best option and why? Or is there a totally different way that's even better than these?
Thanks in advance,
Ron

A multisite installation solves the problems. One WP installation and as many sites you want.

Agreed. Install WordPress on the base URL, then create two subdirectory multisite instances. Put a different theme on each. Problem solved.
