Sad it is. WordPress is really excluding people from its user base.
I would venture to say that design, usability and accessibility goes hand in hand. Usability and accessibility really is integrated. My knowledge in the area is very limited. Way back I read up on the subject but most knowledge has slipped away from me.

For those jumping on Elpie she has covered this ground many times in prior threads and has explained her position quite clearly.
Elpie, although I've never really interacted with you here in the forum I have read the threads you were involved in. I even paid your personal site a visit here and there in the past. It's unfortunate it has come to this but you're always welcome here at the Tavern.

Thanks Len. Your words are appreciated :-) As I said, I'm still kinda around (still supporting some users of WP, although not taking any new work) so I'll still be keeping up to date with WordPress, and working with it.
For example, I've had a new change accepted on the trac that will help everyone's sites to validate (see: http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/18128). No doubt there will be the occasional issue that crops up that I can add to trac without spending months or years explaining over and over, and I'll add those. But I won't be on the forums, in discussions, helping out on WP stack exchange, or beta testing any longer.
It's a shame some people jumped on this. WordPress has never been fully accessible and never claimed to be. It's still the best blogging platform around & I still recommend it for anyone wanting to set up a blog, as long as accessibility isn't one of their requirements. It just diverged too far from my needs for me to justify spending my time trying to make it something it's not. There's no need for anyone to read anything more into this than what I've said.
