Default Largest DDoS Attack On WP.com Yet

Looks like WordPress.com had some issues the other day thanks to a gigantic DDoS attack that Matt thinks could have been politically motivated against one of their non-English speaking blogs.

I didn't know that the WP.com VIP partners were on the same infrastructure network as regular WordPress.com users. I wonder how they plan on putting VIP members into a silo to protect them from these kinds of attacks without putting them all on their own infrastructure.

Yep, that's the whole point of using VIP, so that you are on the same infrastructure as WordPress.com.

This is quite unfortunate for WordPress.com as they've had a spectacularly good run with reliability for a long time now.

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. Will probably increase in the future with all the outspoken bloggers in various nations.

Whoever wrote that TechCrunch article needs to get their facts straight. WordPress.com does not power 10% of the internet, WordPress does; so only a small subset of that 10% was affected. Also, DDoS =! Anonymous is a weird statement to make; presumably they meant DDSO != Anonymous.

What's the first two things you notice when reading the headline as the first sentence in this post?

Other than that, WordPress.com was hit a second time and it looks like the majority of the attack came from China. Big surprise...
