Yes, profiles is built on buddypress. I haven't messed with it much. Been there a few months.
But if you find problems with it, email me about them and I'll put them on the big list.
Rich, you can email me about anything. Even my opinions on various beers. :) I've just been working on the plugins directory today.

It mostly works. Formatting oddities and I hate that I can't easily find posts I've replied to and follow up on them. Partially a workflow issue :)
