Default Can we use other 3rd party software alongside WordPress?

Can we use other 3rd party php scripts alongside WordPress? I see a couple of nice PHP script scripts that I would like to use with WordPress on my site. The PHP scripts dont have WordPress plugins and I was just going have a page that use the WordPress header, footer, etc. and include the PHP script. Some of the PHP scripts I want to use are not GPL, does that matter?

Oh and hats off to this website, have learned quite a bit from these forums. Thanks!!!

You can do whatever you want with WordPress. You own your installation. You can combine it with whatever you want. You can change it however you want. You can run it alongside anything you want.

The GPL places absolutely no use restrictions on you.

Not at all. Wordpress is licensed under GPL, that's why you can extend it with any code you see fit, even proprietary software. That's part of the freedom you get from free software.

What I meat was the other way around, I found a good PHP program that does not use the GPL license and I wanted to integrate that with WordPress. This is the software: http://www.helioscalendar.com/ and see this: http://www.refreshmy.com/forum/showt...p?t=509&page=1

    Thanks for all the input!

Looks like Helios' license wouldn't restrict such combination:
    License

    Q) I like Helios but I need it to ________. Can I modify it to meet my needs?

    A) Yes. The Helios Calendar Software License Agreement grants limited permission to personalize Helios' functionality. Two general limitations to this are that you cannot:
alter or remove the branding elements of the administration console, all logos and copyright notices must remain intact and unaltered; nor
alter or remove the source code file headers or their copyright notices.
Expanded privileges are available, for an additional fee, to "rebrand" and alter the administration console interface logos and copyright notices. No license is available that permits alteration or removal of source code headers or their copyright notices.
Combined with the forum thread you posted, it's clear that the Helios Calendar developer has no problems with users combining his product with WordPress (or any other PHP application).

(And the FSF is full of crap regarding there being "issues" with an end user combining a non-GPL application with a GPL application. The end-user can do what ever the heck he wants, and will remain within the terms of the GPL in doing so. The GPL has no impact unless and until distribution takes place. Their email response looks like FUD and/or a blatant attempt to rake in consulting fees.)

I agree with Chip. That Chris guy from Refresh really seem to be troubled by the GPL. Its absurd that the lobby has grown so large that the spirit of GPL now infects everything as well. I have heard of ghost syndrom but ghost viruses?
