    Icon5 OpenCamp And Detroit

I've already purchased my tickets, room, and flight to Dallas in August for OpenCamp which I'm pretty excited about because fans of all three publishing systems will be together under one roof. I'm interested in seeing if there is any tension amongst the three communities or if everyone will be free flowing.

This may also give me the opportunity to interview on video a prominent member of the Drupal or Joomla communities and ask them a few questions regarding their community and how they are accomplishing certain tasks.

As for WordCamps, right now, I'm looking at going to WordCamp Detroit in October. I think I'm going to put the request out there to see if anyone would like to sponsor my trip. If no one bites, I'll take the cheap route and drive up their and find a room close by. According to Google Maps, it's only a 2 hour and 30 minute drive but I'd add 30-60 minutes just for traffic.

That's the extent of my travels so far for the rest of the year. Depending on how things go, I might add another trip before it's all said and done.

Anyone else here going to OpenCamp or WordCamp Detroit?

I enjoyed WordCamp Dallas last year, it was great. I haven't made up my mind yet if I am going. I don't know if they will be able to attract the talent they got when it was just WordCamp (they don't have a speaker list yet).

I actually think OpenCamp looks pretty great. Love the three tracks and the general session idea. If that sort of thing was closer (flying into DFW is something I like to avoid when possible), i'd consider going for sure. My pals Cali and Chris (and Brian!) are all speaking and all 3 are great speakers.

What I like about OpenCamp is that it feels more like a web conference. Most of the best developers I know use multiple platforms. They might personally prefer one over another but they are flexible. Part of my problem with WordCamps Ive attended in the past is that there isn't enough WP-specific content. It ends up being more esoteric and broader "blogging" which then can encompass other platforms. Can't wait to see your coverage, Jeff!!

Both me (Dave Moyer) and Lorelle VanFossen from WordCast will be speaking at OpenCamp, actually! Our team is working closely with John Pozadzides and Cali Lewis as they organize the event, and it is really shaping up to be something interesting.

As WordCamps begin to shift away from general blogging/social media topics and more into the WordPress centric-realm, do any of you think that OpenCamps come in to fill the gap? The team behind the conference is open to groups setting up grassroots conferences in their own locales.

I'm speaking at OpenCamp. Looking forward to it! I've used both Joomla and Drupal as well as WP.

I don't know about smaller OpenCamps starting to appear across the country. I do like the idea though of bringing fans, users, and developers of all three platforms into one place to talk things over.

OpenCamp's a nice idea. It's kind of like SOBcon, which we just had in Chicago recently. Multiple Media Represent! Just because I use WP doesn't mean I don't use other open source apps :)

I have signed up for OpenCamp, looks like there is a huge list of speakers, I am very impressed!
