    Icon5 Guess The Acquisition

In this video interview conducted by Mashable at WordCamp San Francisco, Matt mentioned that there will be acquisitions with 100% certainty this year.

Let's play a game. Try and name the next company to be acquired by Automattic.

It's not really a hint but in recent acquisitions, the service or company has been platform agnostic.

WP e-commerce is a GPL plugin, so not much point in buying that since it's free anyway.

GetShopped.com is a possibility though I guess as it would tie in nicely with WordPress.com.

Why would Automattic want to purchase any of those?

By geo related service, do you mean something like Amazon Cloud Front? I was wondering if something like Amazon S3 might be more likely. They already use it to host their own files, so creating something in-house and allowing the broader WordPress community to make use of it would make a lot of sense. They could actively promote their own CDN system and get a lot of customers that way from the broader WordPress community whilst possibly reducing their costs associated with using Amazon S3.

I'm not sure what you mean at all by "mobile related server service" though.

Definitely something involving distributed storage. This is their current big PITA, I think. I do know they spend a small fortune on S3.

I saw some speculation about hosted versions of Buddypress like wordpress.com, but I can't see that happening, as BP itself doesn't have the internal code to support it. (yet)

And, like stated above, they are very platform agnostic, so anything coming up won't be wordPress-specific, but rather an enchancement type of thing for any kind of site.

    A CDN maybe?
