Ah, yeah now I see... they were all on the main blog too, right?

Definitely 3.0 is easier to take an exisiting install from WP to being the main blog on a network. i'm still expecting adding additional existing blogs to a new network is going to be the same process it has been.

Yeah, they were all on the main blog. Adding additional, though, is the same as it ever was (which was pretty painless for my smaller second blog).

THanks to everyone who responded to this thread! Lots of helpful information to get me on my way putting this together!!!

Thanks for the info... I was unaware that subdomains are viewed by search engines as separate site. This is good to know. As far as the duplicate content issue, I don't believe that this would be a problem in my case... The reason I asked was because it would be nice to be able to easily pull all "News Posts" from the individual blogs and display them in descending order by post date.

@andrea_r - Thanks for all the information + links. This will be very helpful once 3.0 is unleashed and I put this into place. I checked with my host and it looks like they do not allow wildcard DNS or wildcard sub-domains so it looks like I will be stuck using a folder-based system which I don't mind actually.

Don't use Mu though. Wait for WordPress 3.0 as MU is finally getting integrated into the core.
Rich - This is exactly what I'm planning to do. I've read here and there about MU in the past but never really bothered installing it and hacking around because I didn't have a goal in mind. Now I do and am excited about it!

I wish I had a use-case for MU... I think it would be fun to play around with. Unfortunately, I just don't have such a use-case. Maybe one day.

As Jeff said: looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Will post back when the time comes for sure, Here's where I'm at so far with the art section using a single installation: http://art.mfields.org/walk-towards-the-sun/ definitely rough around the edges, but once I work it all out, I'm gonna release the theme all free and gpl and stuff :)
