    Icon3 Enterprise Edition Of WordPress

Somehow came around to finding this but it took place in 2006 and at one time, in partnership with the now defunct KnowNow, WordPress had an enterprise edition of the software.

But, Toni's update to the post shows the idea went down the tubes since KnowNow didn't make it!

How many of you have been around long enough to know about this piece of history?

Yup, I remember that. It wasn't that long ago.

I know that whole thing very well, and I've always wondered what happened with that. I talked to Charles about it on the WordPress Podcast back when it was all announced. I said it was only a good idea if they contributed their advancements back to the community.

I do remember it. Like so many things that don't succeed, nobody shouts about the failure - which is why you have to be careful when listening to success stories!

Anyway, as someone who's been looking at WP for the enterprise, the biggest problem would have been that in 2006 WP simply wasn't yet ready for it. Now, nearly four years later, it's starting to get there. It still, however, misses the menu management, workflow and authentication that it really needs if it's to challenge the 'grown-up' CMSs.

It would be interesting to have a list of failed business ideas that were built around Wordpress.

I'm sure we would have a lot to learn from someone else mistakes. :)

We had contacted them at one point for a project. We set up a team conf call with them and then when the person there got on the line, they weren't apparently the "wordpress person". That pretty much ended the call and any further interest in talking to them.

Ah yes - who was it that said that 80% of success is just turning up? Woody Allen, I think.
