Replacing Matt With What?

So, I've seen people suggest Matt hightail it out of the projects way and let the community take over. Not sure if this is such a good idea but I want to hear what your thoughts are on replacing Matt with the community? How would you do it? Do you use PollDaddy to make people vote on every decision you make? Who heads the plugin or theme repositories? Do we then have to worry about corruption within the community?

A pure democracy doesn't work in a community of so many people. Maybe we should do the same for America, and just have everyone vote on all the laws before they're passed.

You have to have someone with final executive say at the top. We already have a "board" of people making WP decisions. As you know, anyone can join in on this in the wp-dev chats.

Until someone can explain why the current system doesn't work, I see no reason to entertain this idea.

That Matt took millions of dollars VC money and then jetted off on a round the world tour while other *real* open source programmers sweated on making WP better and better just so Matt could continue raking in *millions* while being a total douche to anyone else who even looks like making a cent of money off of WP themselves, not to mention shunning all the hard code WP fans from the early days so as to appeal to the masses with each new WP release.

Or apparently thats what some people think.

You know, kind of like how early Twitter adopters got upset when Oprah and Ashton Kutcher were getting all the press instead of those who were there when having 1000 followers was considered huge.

I think we should ban Matt, then close source the project and ban plugins/themes to ensure that we don't have more arguments over the GPL.

Or perhaps go use Habari? It seems to cater for what a lot of people don't seem to like about WordPress.

I hope that if Andrew were elected leader of the project, he wouldn't strip out everything I enjoy using everyday because he thought it was bloat :P
