Hello, my name is Michelle and I've used WordPress on various sites for myself and clients since 2004. For much of this year I've been working on a news theme framework that started as part of my Master's Thesis. There's still lots to learn, and so I'm looking forward to hanging out here and getting to know more people in the community.

dgwyer - Yes, '04 is a long time...It's so exciting to see how far WP has come since then. :)

Ryan - My degree was in Information Science. I was dreading the Master's Thesis project, but doing it on something WordPress related made it more fun! :D

Wow, thanks for the offer, but I turned in the written part of my thesis back in January. I'm still working on the deliverable part (the theme). I wasn't clear about that. :D But thanks anyway!

In a nutshell, my thesis was about how small community newspapers can use WordPress to power their websites (as an alternative to expensive proprietary systems).

By the way: what's your school's policy regarding intellectual property? If the school claims ownership - and therefore copyright - of your written thesis and deliverable (i.e. the Theme itself), you may not be able to release it (GPL or otherwise). Of course, pay no attention to me if you've already looked into that. :)

lol no, I have the right to sell and/or distribute any part of my thesis and its deliverables in any means possible, according to my school's master's paper distribution agreement. The school does have the right to include the paper in its library for circulation, but I still have the right to do whatever with it.

We can never be too careless about licenses these days. ;)
