May I propose another topic ?

The WordPress ecosystem - who`s who. Jeffro is all over the place and it will suit well with the WP Tavern project.

WP.org, Automattic, dev, plugin/theme respository, plugin devs, theme devs, WP sites, WP-forum, WP-chats, WP-books, quality commercial resources ( pay to be included ) etc.

Terrific. I just remembered my Twitter/WordPress Integration Guide that I've been giving away for a while now. Info is a bit dated but could help this section too.

Awesome. Hey didn't Brad Williams post a slide deck from a presentation he did on WP security? Expanding all of that out into "how to" steps would probably be a big chunk of good content.

Thats a good idea. Like someone else replied a "Resources" section could suit all that stuff nicely.

Last night I dusted off my old draft, tweaked the outline to match my earlier post a bit better, removed all the out of date screenshots, and made a few other adjustments. It stands at 33 pages already, with plenty of content still to go in. This won't be one of those weak little ebooks if people were worried about that, this has the potential to be well over 100 pages of quality content.

    I'd like to commit to:

    Pages
(eg what, why, how, and maybe a few tricks like static homepage)

...and maybe more, but I want to make sure I don't over-extend.

How/where may a community project like this be organized ?

BTW: It wont hurt to have a look at the 2.7 handbook and make sure the handbooks cover (some) different stuff.

Why would I pay for a book-e-book when I have been WordPressing for over 2 years?
Most of those topics on page 3 of this thread I have been doing for over those 2 years. I also gotten help through WP.org forum/here/other sites/twitter/etc...
Also I am not paying for a new edition every 6 months.

However...If there is a wptavern t-shirt, usb key, hoodies, beer mugs, etc...that I have no problem (WPT thongs would be awesome, not really but how often do I get to type thongs and not get hit on the head or in trouble?).

Right, but we're not trying to find something people would pay for just to help Jeff out. We're looking for sustainability. The ebook would be aimed a non-regulars. At least, I think it would be.

I'd say a forum thread is one of the worst collaboration tools going but will roll with it until it becomes impractical.

And yes, I think the value above what the Handbook currently does is that it will be more detailed, more friendly "how to" with screenshots etc, and go into areas that the Handbook doesn't (SEO, Social Media integration, as two examples).

You wouldn't. I wouldn't buy it either. I might have bought it years ago when I was starting out with WordPress though (instead I bought a book about Mambo/Joomla).

This is not about something current members can buy as some kind of donation to WP Tavern (thats what merch would be), this is something that can be marketed and sold to new WordPress bloggers who are struggling to get started.
