WordPress Consultants Directories or Profile Listings:
Apart from the official WordPress.org / BuddyPress.org community forums/profile pages, I don't know any.

Forums and your own website:
Being an active member of the whole WordPress community and contributing by writing articles, helping others, constructively commenting on other's websites... will generate a byproduct: consolidate your online presence in the WordPress field. Obviously you don't need to reply to every single thread or post (with useless info) but if you're in the right place, at the right moment, with the right answer, people will come and look for you. Be prepared and have a nice website up.

Nice list. WPTavern forum also has a job board where VIP members can use to post job listings while the rest of the forum can reply to them. I hope it picks up within the next few weeks as I set that place up for consultants to pass on work that they are too busy for or do not want.

There is plenty of WordPress work out there to do. Everything from upgrading to backing up to just installing a plugin. People will and do pay to have the simplest things done for their site.
